no it is a very common belief so common in fact that police have been known to report fans as a cause of death and thats why most electric fans that are sold in korea have timers that ways if they fall asleep with the fan on they wont die however if you ask them to explain why they think this is they dont have a good answer

Hahaha. I havent heard about the dying thing, but once when I was living with a Korean grandmother in Busan in the stinkingest hottest time of summer she started yelling at me that my having the fan on was making her sick. Doesn't matter that she was in a totally different room from me.

I have the fan going all night, and I think my friend when realising that we are still both alive deemed it safe to have the fan going. Before that we would have protests about the use of the timer.
What's the point? Im only going to get back up again and turn it on for another 4 hours.

However I guess I have been here long enough to think it's not so good to have it blowing directly onto my face... so I keep it pointed at my toes.

I have also had the recommendations of not using it, but I dont really like A/C on all night, and seeing as I don't actually pay the bils... I like to keep my use to a minimum.

Yeah!, i've heard this from like 4 Koreans that if you leave the electric fan on while you're sleeping you can die. I asked my dad (Chinese), and he said no why would that happen? I only heard this from Koreans too.

don't see how that can be since the fan is blowing MORE oxygen your way than normal. being korean I have heard this but attribute this as some urban myth.
