I had a molar break off about 5 months ago. I have had non stop pain for almost a week now. I ended up in the er, and they put me on antibiodics. Told me to take advil for pain. That doesn't work. 1500-2000mg of tylonal and 800mg of advil don't kill pain. I have about 2 more weeks before I can even get a dentist to look at my mouth. What is there over the counter, that will kill the pain of the exposed nerve. I have no insurance and no real source of income. Can anyone help or offer any suggestions?

Oh I am so sorry! This is one of the worst kinds of pains and I have had it before.

What I used that was over the counter was Excedrin for Migraines, Advil (The Ibuprofen in the Advil is what Really helped me the most) and Tylenol for Arthritis. The Tylenol for Arthritis is one of the strongest over the counter pain meds that I have found. 650mg per. That is why I got it.

Again, It was the Ibuprofen that helped the most.

I will keep you in my thoughts.

Peace...
Laurie

Advil is your best bet. Stay on a regular course, but don't exceed the dosage. It may take a couple of days.

I don't know why you've waited 5 months, and I can't imagin why you can't see a dentist for 2 weeks. I'm sure you can see one today, if you want to.

If it's an insurance thing, remember insurance seldom covers pre-existing conditions. If this is why you've waited to see a dentist, you've wasted a lot of time, and gone through a lot of pain, for nothing.

poor thing, you do know that an emergency visit to a dentist is only $25.00 in most areas, honestly nerve pain like that is awful. I'd recommend ketoprofen, Orudis
same family as motrin, but you realkly need presciption pain reliever's try to go and and be seen by a dentist tell them about the pain!

Besides the painkillers you can cover up the exposed nerves. Some pharmacies carry wax, like the kind that you put over braces so they don't cut up your lips. This will help reduce some of the pain. Also avoid hot and cold foods/beverages.

first please stop taking such large doses of advil exct. you can damage your kidnneys and liver which is way worse than a tooth acke. put a wet tea bag on your tooth. go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what would work best. i was a dental assistant 20 yrs ago and they have many new prooducts on yhe market to help you. i know you are in great pain but do get to the dentistbefore it gets worse than it is, oh yes it can and it can also damage your heart in short time. iv seen the most terrible infections go on to even life threating situations. good luck

The emergency room is the place to go to get medication. You may need something stronger than advil. Explain your situation, they should be able to give you some relief. or help you get in to see someone.
