It is the trunk, not the root.

Animal instinct is the root of evil. Animals have no religion, but they still murder, rape, steal, lie, and commit most any other crime that humans do.

The ability to reason and judge the long-term best interest of the human species and the Earth in general is the only way to combat evil. By teaching people to simply do as they are told instead of reasoning for themselves, Abrahamic religions take the evil of our instincts to a whole new level unseen in nature.

They certainly haven't had a positive ipact on the worls. I don't necessarily believe that the philosophies are wrong, just the man made distortions.

Man has corrupted some perfectly good philosophies, usually in an attempt to gain and maintain pwoers in the hands of a few individuals.

The reason their impact has been so great is because the sizes of the organisations. There are many religions and cults that are based on linited understanding of the world that are much worse than these three but have little effect outside their immediate area because they are so small.

At the moment it seems that way. Come to think of it, its almost always been that way, from the moment that the Hebrews entered Palestine and Canaan and started mass murdering the Canaanites and Philistines. Come to think of it, that's happening again being that the Lebanese and Palestinians are descended from Canaanites and Palestinians. And Mohammed was a warlord who led armies in Arabia and Palestine. Come to think of it, nothing has changed there either. And Jesus was murdered by the Jews and the Romans. Come to think of it, they are still murdering his beliefs. Hey, you could be right. Come to think of it you probably are. But wait, there's communism and capitalism and they are pretty evil too. Hang on, Marx and Engels (the inventors of Communism) were German Jews and Zionists to boot. And the first Capitalists were also staunch Protestants. Wow, there's a common thread here. But what's evil? If by evil you mean the murdering and killling of innocents, those who think differently from you and the destruction of the environment, well then hey, you are bang on. Now how do we get the word out there so that we turn them away from this path before they kill themselves and all the rest of us?
Great question, I bet you get a lot of backlash.

Ah, one of those ordinary question... Yhwh (the God of Abraham, who did not improve up worshiping Him yet instead a moon deity) did provide him the seeds of what may change into Judaism. This became exceeded down and subtle by technique of Moses and others over the years. that is why it is called the Mosaic regulation. Christianity is, in reality, a boom from Judaism, in spite of the indisputable fact that many Jews do not see it that way. it is comprehensible, because the Jewish theory of Messiah is of a human who's specially anointed by technique of God to lead the Jews in a conflict adverse to unrighteous forces and fix Israel. Jesus did not declare to be that when He became right here the first time, nor did He act that way even in spite of the indisputable fact that human beings did attempt to rigidity Him into it. Islam, in spite of the indisputable fact that it claims to be from the roots of Abraham, is in reality very distinct from both Judaism or Christianity. It specially forbids the Christian practice of saying that Jesus is God (God the Son, the 2d individual of the Trinity.) It also has many passages that placed down the Jews. it truly is the extremely condensed version. yet God did get it top the first time, it is purely that what a lot of human beings see as a distinct way (Christianity) isn't, it is actual the fulfillment of prophecy. Islam isn't, it truly is a contradiction of both the different religions.

Religion is man made. So that is why you see evil come from religion. Thats why I don't focus on Religion but I focus on a relationship with Jesus. I read the bible, I pray, I seek him first in all things. Just imagine if the terroists were to seek Jesus first then they would not desire to do evil right? God Bless you Good Question

A lot of the answers given here is the reason why Jesus will come back soon. We live in a blatantly sinful society which embraces bad and makes fun of good. We are living in times where good is called evil and evil is called good, its a sign if the end times friends.

All 3 religions have given great things and moral standards to the world.
Right now it does feel like all 3 of them are having some great problems but I have a feeling it will be all over soon within next few years.

I would say yes, but I fear another religion would have taken their place had they not dominated the world so significantly during the previous 2000 years.
