Cannonball Adderley was absolutely amazing. I really like Gerald Albright and David Sanborn also. True the tenor is the main voice of jazz, but the alto is strong so is the flute. Oh, arguably the greatest of sax players, Charlie Parker, played alto.

Here is just a short list of current sax players (other than Charlie Parker, who is not current). There are some that are tenor, but a lot are alto, or do both. Charlie Parker is pretty much universally considered the greatest alto sax player ever. Charles McPherson is a great alto player who I've been blessed with the opportunity to play with, and to hang out with on occasion.
Branford Marsalis
Charles McPherson
Charlie Parker
Dave Brubeck
Dave Koz
David McMurray
David Sanborn
Gerald Albright
