tough call, but we need to move forward with research in all medical areas. the bugs we catch today are move lethal and this type of research seems to have some positive results. But it is a morale question that only the people doing it can answer. TOUGH ONE.

Hard question. Is animal research for medical science justified?

My feeling for both is yes, it is justified. In my opinion it is not a formed person, just the potential to be. What stem cell research could help to achieve is alleviating the suffereing of countless humans with debilitating illnesses. One thing to bear in mind is that these embryos are made with one purpose. They are not made to become humans through fertility treatment. They have a purpose and without that purpose they would not exist and so this would not be an issue.

Bush is a prize ****. Religion should NEVER come into decisions of state.

Murder is the unlawful, deliberate killing of a human being, and whatever else embryos are, they aren't yet human beings. So no, it's not murder.

And given the furore and ethical dilemmas raised by such research, it's hard to see a time when we're engaged in uncontrolled human experimental research. It will always be a sensitive area, and subject to many controls, and checks and balances.

no i'm sorry but how can it be murder? every month a woman produces an egg which in most cases is not fertalized, (is that murder?) every time a bloke masterbates (is that murder?) so instead of flushing them both down the loo is it not better to recycle these and help save someones life or make someone's quality of life better!
stem cells are generic blue prints and can be turned into any type of cell

how would you feel if you lost your sight (60% of your brain is devoted to seeing and processing what you see!) and the only thing that would return your vision is stem cells maybe you would change your mind if it was you which would benifit or would you sit on your morals and stay blind forever?

It's far from a justified excuse for murder. The therapies that could be gained from such research would be monumental if the hype is fulfilled. However it is still a touchy subject primarily regarding the time at which human life begins.

stem cell research is definatly needed and there should be a lot more research and a lot more available embryos - its not murder they arent alive and conscious at that level of development; however they can provide knowledge that will keep someone that is alive, alive longer...a few years back they had to rob graves to gain knowledge of anatomy and didnt have very good results lets not take us to the dark ages

Do you personally know anyone who would benefit from this kind of research?

I do.

But I still can't decide if it is right or wrong.

I would like to think "right" but it is so much more complicated

You pretty much made me cry ------ for both sides of the argument

I think it shouldn't be justified, because no matter how much it helps other people overcome a sickness, it is still murder.

good luck.
