Explain (in a nice way) that although you like him as a friend you do not have the kind of feelings for any other kind of relationship and therefore you think it best if you no longer go out with him so that he is free to pursue other relationships that could be more meaningful for him

the best thing to say is that ,look i now you probably dont want to hear this but i think its best if we both go our separate ways, as i feel we havent alot in common anymore, if you feel you can stay m8s try it, but it doesnt usually work as you go over old times.
try to be as nice as you can and amicable, alot of it depends really on what reason why you want to break up, if hes seeing someone else on the side then tell him to p off etc, but if its just that your cheesed off with him etc, then the above usually works well.
its not an easy thing to do but, really you just have to come out and say it, rather than carry onliving a lie and be miserable.

hmm well if hes not treating u right then its should be easy. u can just list why ur unhappy and want to breakup but if hes a good guy and did nothing wrong then why breakup wit him. still just tell him how it is. be honest and open and try not to cry. makes a guy think ur lying. so just get him alone and tell him we need to talk. its simple to say but hard to do i know but u have to do it. if ur sure its over. good luck

Give him classic lines..
"I just want to be friends"
"It's not you, it's me"
"I feel my life is going in a different direction than yours"
"I think we should see other people"
Or if you can't come up with anything tell him the truth to why you want to breakup.

Tell him you need some space, and some time to think. Let him know that your not sure the relationship is going in the direction you are comfortable with. I would try that.

Take out a restraining order, this way you can be sure he gets the message, and if he don't ring the coppers and have him arrested.
