Last night I have just notice that my 6 monthed old golden retreiver mixed w/ samoyed has been shaking and moving her mouth like she was chewing while they are closed and sticking out a little bit of her tougue in her sleep and I've woken her up and it stopped, but when she goes back to sleep it continues, and I've never seen her did this before and I really am worried something could be wrong with her,and she was my first real dog and if somthing happened to her i would be awfully sad,and if you have any advice or know anything just please tell me, i would really appreciate it.

Thanks, shela

It's really nothing. they are just having "doggy dreams". I have a 15 yr old dog who has been doing things like what you've said all her life. She even barks and yelps in her sleep sometimes. And she's fine. No worries

She is dreaming about chasing and running and eating. Wait until she barks in her sleep and wakes herself up! That is funny. they look so shocked, like they are not quit sure of what happened. If my dog moves and barks we walk way around him. He is a rescue dog and only has 3 legs.Waking him is like waking up a tornado just trying to get up fast! Knock you right over if you are standing to close. Then he feels bad and is not sure what happened. Good luck with the puppy. He will probably do it the rest of his life.

Everyone's on the money here. I have a cat and when he falls asleep on my lap, he also gets the shivers. When I look closely he has the whole r.e.m. thing going as well, so just like us and every other animal,,, cats and dogs dream.

Ive watched bemused as many dogs ova time get worked up in sleep. We used to say our dog was dreaming of chasing kangaroos or somthing as it would be yelping moving and generally very active in sleep; wake it up its sartled then lies back down returning to dream. like u and me i know i like to go bak to good dreams

To me, dogs, like human beings, dream and have nightmares. I have three dogs. When they are sleeping, I have seen how they thump their tails, shake their legs as if they are running, shudder in fear and whine. What I do is simple. I stroke them gently and they stop shaking like that. Try that and see what happens.

Dog is just having dreams. They will appear to run in their sleep. They can also bark or growl in their sleep.
