Well, it warns against boasting about things that are superficial. 2 Corinthians 5:12 says "We are not again recommending ourselves to YOU, but giving YOU an inducement for boasting in respect to us, that YOU may have [an answer] for those who boast over the outward appearance but not over the heart." Would having a holier-than-thou hypocritical view of one's own faith fall under this category? Christ thought so (Matt 6:2-4).

Not exactly. More than anything, motive is paramount. Usually if someone is boasting about their faith (as in, it seems like they think they are better than someone else because they have more faith), then that's not good and not condoned, exactly. None of us is any better than anyone else. I may be forgiven and you may not be, but that doesn't make me a better person than you. If I am forgiven, it's because of what God did, not anything I do. So I can't take credit for it, really.

There are people who are "self-righteous", and think they are better than others, but usually those type think it's their doing instead of God, and they might not even belong to Him at all, if they have that attitude.

All those who belong to God through Christ are to be humble. That doesn't mean they don't speak the truth - they are called to speak the truth, and warn those headed for Hell of their desperate state, but do it with all humility.

No. It says that when people do good deeds they should not be as some and in our modern day terms take out an ad in the paper that they did them. It says that when we pray we should not be as some and stand on the street corners and make great scenes and cry and scream out and repeat ourselves over and over, but that we should be humble before the Lord and repentive in nature and that it doesn't take a lot of words as God knows our hearts and our needs. But we are to pray!

To boast of one's faith in a forum of this nature is not to be pridefully boastful in most instances, but to share what one does in their life, as we obviously are not in proximity of one another to be visual witnesses.

It says something about those who boast about their faith to get attention or make himself seem "better" being a sin or something.
