But now with the online application, it is very fast. If you get it done today, you should have what you need by Next Thursday. Be sure to have a scanner for the tax returns, w-2s, drivers licenses and all that stuff. It really is pretty quick. When I was in school it took MONTHS to have it all manually underwritten. Dont give up though. The education will last you a lifetime.

You can get loans any time from common banks. You just need to have good credit history. Usually the requirements are less for students, given that they might not have excellent credit histories (they barely have any credit history at all).
However, these other types of loans tend to be much more costly (higher interest). I recommend going through the FAFSA, taking first federal loans (subsidized are better than non-subsidized), and only taking other private loans as a last resort.

They're right - you could get a loan without fafsa, but it would be a private loan that would cost you a lot of money. If were to borrow $5000 through a private loan you would end up paying back close to $10,000.

you can try getting a private loan but you usually have to have a cosigner.
