About every 5 seconds these error messages pop up and say that Windows is damaged and I have to go to this site to download something. Each time though it's a different site. Can I trust this should I download what it says I don't think I should becasue none of those sites are from microsoft. I have Windows 2000 pro

This is a virus, I had it once. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT!!!
Get a anti virus program or norton internet security or something or try going to your local computer store (pc world or something like that) and taking your processor with you (here in england they help fix it for you, not that much money- sometimes free)
I had to get someone to refresh windows completely for me because of this once...never click on pop-ups...they only lead to trouble!

Or go to symantec.com/.co.uk and see if there is any help or info about ways to get rid of it on there...do a whole system scan while your at it!!

The easiest thing is to email or burn all the important files. Reformat hard drive and it should be as good as new. I also suggest getting XP or just waiting for the new Windows. I think Microsoft will pretty soon stop updates for 2000.

Before going into some heavy diagnostic programs, try the FREE vesion of Crap Cleaner and FREE version of AVG anti-virus first.

www.ccleaner.com ( Crap Cleaner )

www.grisoft.com (AVG ....the FREE version IS there, just have to look for it).

AVG is a very impressive anti-virus scanner. Not only is the "personal" version FREE, but it's updates also are FREE.

You might want to shut off any running anti-virus programs currently now on your system. But try these two programs, though. I think they'll work fine for you.

Sounds like spyware/spamware or software unintentionally downloaded (like bundled with other software/freeware, etc.) ... find a highly rated spyware/spamware removal program and see what it can find... many times you can scan your computer for free and then pay to remove what it finds (if it finds anything). I have had similar things happen to me.

The best thing to do is to reprogram your computer. If you can't afford it then you can try an anti-virus software.

http://www.trendmicro.com/

They offer free virus scans and removal. And if they can't fix it automatically, they usually have a manual fix.
