sure does. i take care of my niece all the time n i get a feeling tht it's some kinda being mommy training. it helps u to come down to their level and helps u understand kids better. when u hav experience with othr people's kids....u hav more understanding and patience and appreciation bout ur own kids.

That will certainly help knowledge wise when it comes to changing diapers or filling a bottle but whether or not it will help with motherhood all depends. I was a full-time babysitter and now a mother of a 4 yr old and I still find motherhood hard to digest. When you babysit you can return the children home at the end of the day and get paid. When you have children its a 24/7 job. Its expensive too and can take a toll on your relationship if its not sturdy. Those are important facts. Being a parent though is a specile experience which when ready is well worth it.

No, not really. If you're babysitting mainly toddlers and school age children, that won't give you one bit of experience when it comes to a newborn. By the time you have your own children and they're toddlers or school age, you'll more than likely have forgotten what you learned from babysitting (unless it's a career for you and you do it all the time).

In some ways, but when you have your first child, you may still be kind of at a lost for a while, it's more different because it's your baby.

I think any exposure to little ones is helpful in the long run but it doesn't totally prepare you..things are so different when it is your own..you have to learn from scratch.
