A hairdresser about 5 years ago told me the secret:
You get your hair "dusted" (that is about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch at most) trimmed every eight weeks; find the shampoo that works - mine is Pantene 2 in 1 volume; make sure you massage your scalp well when you wash your hair to stimulate hair growth; do not use chemicals - no dyes, no perms. My hair was just about shoulder length, and now it is past my waist. I eat a lot of protien, I protect my hair from the sun with a spray-on sunscreen, and I do not let it get windwhipped.

It worked for me!

First, get your hair trimmed every two weeks. This will keep your hair looking healty, practically eliminating split ends, and it also allows your hair to grow faster! Conditioner can be your best friend. I personally use Neutrogena Triple Moisture, and I love it. It's all about trial and error. Just try new things until you come across the one you can't live without. There are also SEVERAL products on the market to enhance shine and softness.

Be grateful. I have long and thick hair that's hard to get a brush through it. It dries curly and frizzy and takes an hour to straighten. I just cut off six inches because it was so heavy in this heat. I guess one tip would be to not use too much conditioner or it could weigh your hair down and sometimes make your hair look greasy.

Get some essential oils (lavender, tea tree etc.) and add a few drops to your normal shampoo/ conditioner. Also if you have dark hair every now and again use some vinegar on it, if you have light hair use lemon/limes. Essential oils can be found in most Body care sort of shops

add volume to it by back combing it and curl the ends with a big curling iron.
Also wear it in an updo with a clip and after you had set in hot rollers for 20 to 30 minutes for a more dressie look. Play with your hair and try different ideas til you find ones you like. Have fun with it!! You have great hair and are lucky.
