When I was young it was easy to find a job at a fast food restaurant or mow the lawns in my neighborhood. Now with all the Mexicans (illegal or not) in the States it seems that is all I see doing these types of jobs? Where are the high school kids working now?

colortx asks if it scares me that Mexicans are becoming the majority in many states... you're damn right it scares me. I don't like it one bit. It not because you're Mexican, I like Mexicans, it just that I don't want my country to be like the country you left. The more illegals that come here... the worse it gets.

Anyone who hires illegals to mow their grass or clean their homes or babysit their kids should be very ashamed of themselves as they are hurting their own. These are jobs that teenagers always used to do and should be doing again.

You sound like you just don't want any Mexicans in this country, be it legal or illegal. FYI, Mexican's and hispanic's are becoming the majority in many states...Does that scare you????

Incidental, I live on the border and guess what? I see fast food places and convenient store and the like posting signs that they are hiring....We actually have a worker shortage?! As far as high school kids, most don't want to work at McDonald's, its below them....Why don't you stop worrying about some high school kid and start worrying about yourself, busybody!

No, it isn't easy for kids to find summer jobs. Most of them have a hard time selling themselves to an increasingly skeptical group of employers who are more hung up with the bottom line than they are with mentoring young people. We had summer jobs when we were young because we had older adults who were willing to give us a chance. Kids today not only lack adults who are role models, but they have the added disadvantage of having bad press all the time. And there sure is a LOT of bad press.

Hell it's not just teenagers that are effected. But you are right I worked flipping burgers when I was 15 and again as a second job when I was 21. And also many teens aren't as reliable as they could be they quit to easily and many don't want to work and their parents indulge them, but you are right, many would do the work if the jobs were available.

Great observation...your right...But...soon it will be easier for high students to regain those positions. I for one am not willing to sacrifice American children or students for any one.
