I wanna know if a persian cat is good for children.

I have a two years old nephew who comes home often, and I was thinking of keeping the cat in my room, in case it can do harm to him or vice versa.

Besides, he's had a chihuahua dog, rest his soul, and stuff didnt go well. o_o

I agree, I find it very cruel when a cat is declawed. I dunno, but it should be considered animal cruelty IMHO.

Clownmy.. Yeah, he scares me sometimes too.

And I'm gonna have some trouble getting it to like me, because it's a pre owned cat. Hmm.. I dunno, maybe with time she'll learn to like me and I'll eventually introduce it to my nephew.

God, that kid is so hyperactive. He is the only one that worries me. I have other two nephews but they're quite gentle with animals.

Erm.. My nephew didnt like.. Sqweeze him and bam, he died.

No, he spanked him, kicked him and threw him to the air, which eventually led to a slow and painful death.

Poor doggie.. he wasn't even on eyear old.

the only thing i can tell you is that cats have their own totally different personality. some could be aggressive some kind. i love cats so much. and had allot of expiriance with many. so you should just be introductary. to see how they are with the kid. and assist. get the cat close to the kid preferrebly when the cat is a kitten (if your planning to get kittens) so they indentify the kid from young. but always be careful in the introduction.

i had a chinchilla white persion BEAUTIFUL CAT but it did NOT get along with some one it didn't see all the time it was a female though and spayed so after they get spayed they get viscious so i would say NO save the kid if you want one badly then get it FULLY declawed and since it didn't get along with another animal like most cats. I would say no and look into a nicer breed reputation of a cat like a regular black cat or tabby cat or if you want one that is really cute and kinda more fancy like a persian a ragdoll cat. is perfect it like doesn't move when you hold it it is sweet perfect for little kids declawing really doesn't hurt them much if done right the laser way. And it will protect them because they DO love to use their claws and that goes straight to the skin when they strech or get mad or get up. So if you want to keep the cat get it declawed for u and your nephew's sake

You always have to be careful about cats and children. Keeping any cat's nails trimmed will help prevent accidents. Cats are all so different, personality-wise. You might have one persian that is sweet and the next is mean. Be sure to socialize the cat as a kitten, so it is used to children. A good breed for children is the ragdoll cat. This one goes limp when you pick it up. Also, I've never met a mean tuxedo cat.

i would really consider looking into a different breed
i have meet several people with persians and they all say that their cats are a bit more than cranky espically with children
i know the first person to reply said to have the cat declawed but i must say that is a procedure that is extremely painful and totally unnecessary
you can think of it as having your first knuckle removed
since a cats claws are retractable this is a resonable comparison
but if you still want to get a persian i suggest looking into a good breeder
find one that socailizes their kittens
that takes care of them like you would
you get what you pay for
a good breeder isnt cheap and a cheap breeder isnt good
good luck

A lot depends on the temperment of your cat, but 2 years old is a reasonable time to teach him to respect animals, treat them gently, only after he's been introduced, etc. This is a valuable lesson he'll need to learn before his first visit with a Rottweiler. But you may also want to consider that long hair cats tend to incite previously unknown allergies.

look if you are going to allow a child who has already proven to be cruel to animals near that cat i would suggest not to get any animals whatsoever. are you aware that most serial killers start with small animals before moveing on to bigger things if he was allowed to hurt that dog and wasn't punished for it i am sorry but no animals would be better than a dead one after the fact not trying to be mean i just care about animals and it concerned me that a two year old was so abusive to a small animal. it is worth it to make sure it doesn't happen again.

i have a persian cats, he doesnt seem to have a problem with kids and vice versa kids seem to really love him and want to play with him. Just see how you nephew and the cat interact with each other for a while, then you will know how things are going to work out

The problem is not so much the cat as the child. Cats tend to mistrust children, because children tend to chase them and cats prefer to do the chasing. Chasing them either causes them to flee or if they are cornered to defend themselves, which is when the children get hurt.

You need to teach the children to let the cat do the touching first and have them keep their hands out of harm's way.

well if your nephew killed the dog, i would put your kitty in another room, cats are usually okay around kids supervised, but remember if someone grabbed you and squeezed to hard or pulled your hair, cats are just like people, also persians are a great breed, and they are not VISCIOUS after they are spayed or nuetered indeed quite the opposite.
