D. Mann is the BOMB!! Cruel and unusual punishment??? Are you 'lost' in space? What about the victim? Was it not cruel and unusual to do something to deserve the death penalty? Stoopid liberals make this world a hard thing to live in. HANG EM HIGH OR HANG EM LOW - Just hang em! Most criminals have been at it for a while. If they were only busted raping a child or woman, or w/e, it's a fact it was not their first time. Crimes against children and women do not go away by sending a perp to prison. PRISON is NOT REFORM for crying out loud. Not one of them should live. One appeal is all they should get. FORGET LIFE in prison. What a waste of our tax money. First they do us wrong, and we gotta support them to keep them away from us. How many people do that for their own family members who have not done such heinous crimes? If a guy beats up on women, he is not only a sissy, but he never stops. HANG HIM PUBLICLY. UPSIDE DOWN. Like Mussoulini!
lol What a great deterent.

They say that punishment is not a deterrent for crime. The US, I think kills about 500 people a year with the death penalty while China kills about 5000 in the same time frame. They have the death penalty for even drug use. Seems like people are still doing crimes in China even though they could be killed. Despite this info, I think there would be many people who would be afraid to do some crimes if they saw severe punsihments up close.

There is no need to bring back public hangings. In the past TV, radio, and other forms of mass communication were not available to inform people about the penalties for committing crimes; therefore public execution and torture was used to let people know the consequences of peoples actions.

There is no place for these public displays in our world or mass communication.

I believe public execution would certainly make some potential criminal think twice about his lifestyle-to-be. Of course, there are those who think that they are above getting caught in the first place, so it won't stop all criminals...just the logical ones.

Why would a criminal seeing someone die make a difference, they know the death penalty is there and that doesn't stop them.
Along with the fact it would make anyone who chose to see them just as bad as the person being put to death. You would have to be pretty darn sick to want to see someone hanged to death.

Absolutely... The only thing wrong with capital punishment is that it is not used often enough and the appeals process takes too long.

no, because the benefits of having a reminder of misdeeds does not overshadow the extreme lack of humanity.

also, making such a consequence makes a society of fear, opposed to respect. machiavelli was not right.

That would be considered cruel and unusual punishment because you don't die right away.
