The situation now if you are the other side of the road and a bus is at the stop you have to run across the road risking your life only often to find it is not the bus you want. If the number was on the side you would only need to run if it was the correct bus. If you miss the bus you have to wait over half an hour for the next half a dozen to come along.

maybe it was just this bus..have u noticed this on any others? Cuz thats some damned idiots to not think any better if this done on purpose.

London Buses removed the number from the OFFSIDE of their buses way back in the 1960s when the first Routemasters went in for their first overhaul. They were removed for two reasons: 1) it was a fiddle-arsed job for the conductor to alter them if the bus changed routes during a duty (wind-round blinds had replaced metal plates with the coming of the Routemasters) and 2) most people didn't notice them anyway. They were like having the destination shown on the back of a bus - not much use knowing where the bus is going when you've just missed the bloody thing!
Where do you live where you only get a bus every half an hour? - and short of a major traffic balls-up, don't exaggerate about six coming along at once. That one's about as funny as the one about the BR sandwiches always being curly. Not true and not funny.

to prompt people to wait for the bus on the left side of the road with respect to the direction of the bus. England is a right-hand drive place, is'nt it? So that people, the commuters will not hurry up or cross the road suddenly because they saw the bus number and think, "hey that's my ride!!! ha ha, just a guess.. they avoid accidents happening to people suddenly crossing the streets.

It depends on what side of the road your on as to which side of the bus the number is easiest to see it from. There often isn't enough room to have the number on the left and right sides, as well as the eventual location.

They never had them on the right hand side..
Legally (or at least most do it) the number is on the front, side by the door for boarding, and rear
You could always walk a few yards ahead so you can see the number and destination from the front...
