One is the shortest. Cutting his hair with this will only leave sort of stubble on his head. My husband likes his hair really short, so I use a 2 or a 3, depending on the time of year. (2 leaves his head a bit cold in winter)

Actually, I use a # 5 or # 6 guard for cutting the top portion of a man's haircut. In the salon, I usually cut and blend the top portion with my shears. However, if a clipper cut on top is requested, # 5 and # 6 guards leave enought to achieve a more proportionate shape to the entire haircut. I would use a # 3 or # 4 on the sides. Keep in mind a #1 shows the scalp and # 2 can as well.

Depends on how long or short you want it to be. I would say not to go any lower than a 4. And a 4 is really short!

If your just attempting to trim I'd use #4 but of your wanting to buzz it I just use it without a guard. Depends really how much damage you are wanting to do hehe.
