With the weather you are having chilled water will be the best. Then again if you are feeling ill then room temp water will be a better choice. As long as it is plain water there is no argument on which way you can or can't drink. The argument should be drink less soft drinks & alcohal but more water.

Drinking water should be closer to room temperature. Because if you're in an airconditioned room, it will help your body from chilling. If you drink cold water, you will be prone to get any kind of sickness, especially common cold and chillness. Well, try to experiment.

When you drink ice cold water on a hot day it shocks your body and your body temp drops to quickly, some people have been know to faint. Slightly chilled is the way I drink it it does its job.

If you're looking to burn a few extra calories, then it's best to drink cold water, because the body needs to bring it to 'room' temperature first...and that uses up a little more energy to digest than if you drank the water at room temperature.

If it's HOT, like it is in London at the moment, then you need to drink COLD water in order to cool your 'core temperature' as well as hydrate. If you drank 'room' temperature water when it's really hot, it doesn't help you to cool off.

On the other hand....there's absolutely no need to drink ICE COLD water....I think it could be bad for your teeth (not sure though)

I've always heard that it should be closer to room temp, because cold water prevents your body from absorbing nutrients from the food you eat. I have no idea why. I'm going to google it....
BINGO! I found it. The proof is about halfway down the page on this website. Hope this helps!

Sometimes chilled water gives me a headache if I drink it too fast but it still is always preferable to room temperature water. So if you guys are arguing about using a water cooler at work and your boss is too cheap to want to pay for it, tell him he's a cheap bastard and you want to form a union.

Closer to room temp. it's easier for your body to absorb, your body is 98 degrees. Because of the dramatic contrast to your body temp ice water is not as good.

However you prefer it I personally prefer it chilled, but some people like it at room temperature. In this heat I just drink it however it comes if I am thirsty.
