Definitely! My Shelties and terriers all did. Many dogs have an excellent sense of humor and know exactly how to get us to respond positively to them.

Off course dog do things purposefully, but not to make us laugh but to show us that it is under our command so that it can survive. and it is our basic nature to support any animal including humans which we believe is in our command. and i guess, we can find this type of dog behavior among us in the behaviour of the boot lickers. no animal even human doesn't do anything without any purpose. no matter what we or the dogs do, its all for survival and ultimately for the propagation of genes. whether we admit it or not, all kinds living beings still live in a strict Darwinian world. we humans sometimes talk about humanity, but in the end its all about survival either mine or yours. you can read Richard Dawkin's "The Selfish Genes" .

It is hard to watch normal dog behavior and not believe they do things deliberately to make us laugh. In a sense, they might. If you accept the premise that attention is rewarding to a dog, then laughing at their antics is giving them attention, therefore rewarding. If behavior that is rewarded increases, by laughing at their antics, we increase the likelihood of the antics happening again.
So in that sense, definitely. In the meantime, science aside, I choose to believe that when my Golden Retriever, Bob, steals the empty pizza box and prances around carrying flat out in front of him, and I bust up laughing, that he enjoys the scene for the sake of the laughter, not just because he is programmed genetically to carry things around...

If all dogs don't, my dog certainly does. She is quite the ham. She can sense when my husband and I are angry or down. She immediately puts on a show. We end up laughing instead of arguing. It's quite therapeutic.

Animals act on instinct if no longer given instructions from us. possibly the GSD's stress kicked in. instinct, something is putting human thoughts on it. became into she on top of issues? of direction, yet she's a *canine*. She does not make the relationship that it startles you. She basically observed a shifting merchandise and chased it.

Yes they do it by purpose. They are lovable and cute and dependable; they are always there for us, making us laugh (or cry first), making us feel better and delighting us by being themselves being dogs.
