The introduction of bacteria into the bladder. This usually comes from one or more of the following: not wiping correctly after defecating (front to back), not changing underwear regularly, not wearing clean underwear, not urinating after sex (which washes out the urethra).

There is a difference between urinary tract infection and bladder infection. Bladder infection is the less serious of the two. If you ignore and do not treat it, it soon becomes urinary tract infection, which means, quite simply, infection throughout the urinary tract. If you leave THAT alone and do not treat it, it rapidly becomes kidney infection or nephritis. And, that, my dear is VERY serious. The only good thing about bladder and urinary tract infections is that you can NOT ignore them. The discomfort, cramping, burning, and itching will drive you to the doctor. There is NOTHING else that will cure a bladder infection other than antibiotics. You can drink all the cranberry juice in the world and it won't help. Just go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. And I seriously doubt that intercourse is the cause of your UTI. There is a condition called "honeymoon cystitis" but that usually only occurs when you first become sexually active.

Interstitial cystitis is usually mistaken for a urinary tract infection (UTI) because many of the symptoms, including the frequent need to urinate and burning sensation with urination, are similar. But UTIs are normally easily diagnosed with a simple urine test that detects the bacteria that cause the infection. Urinary tract infections are also usually easy to treat with antibiotics, and in some cases, home remedies such as drinking cranberry juice may even help prevent them. Interstitial cystitis, however, doesn't respond to antibiotics, often flares up just before menstruation, and can disappear for weeks, months, or even years at a time, only to reappear with stress. IC can also be marked by pelvic pressure, tenderness, and sometimes severe pain. Indeed, the pain can be so intense and the need to urinate so frequent (for example, just riding in a car or sitting in a movie theater may be intolerable)

You are more prone to UTI's if you wipe back to front after using the restroom... Unprotected sex is also a culprit. Some women are just naturally more prone to them than others. Sometimes drinking cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail) can help ward off a UTI but the best thing to do is see a doctor before it gets too bad. Ingoring a UTI and hoping it will go away can lead to problems like bladder infections and kidney infections, which are NOT fun and can place you in the emergency room. Stay safe!!

I'll keep it simple- the #1 reason is sexual activity - but not because it is an STD. It is simply physics - you have a lot of motion, which pushes bacteria into your urethra. That is why the best way to avoid UTIs is by always urinating after sex- it "clears out" the urethra. The #2 reason is when women hold in their urine too long - so make sure you go to the bathroom when you get the urge. The more complex issues involve the fact that certain women are more susceptible to UTIs due to a variety of factors such as their normal flora and anatomy. Discuss with your physician if you are getting them more than 2-3 times a year.

It's mainly a disease called E. coli. Located in the rectum. The reason why women get so much of it is because the rectum is located very close to the vagina. There fore if wipe improperly- the disease spreads. Wearing cotton underwear does reduces the cause. And especially after intercourse- us women HAVE to wipe front to back. if not, germs will spread.

with a UTI- a person must be treated with an antibiotic. or the disease will spread to the kidneys...

It is usually the E. coli ( normal flora or normal bacteria living in our colon) is the culprit for this. You see, in females the urethra is in close proximity with the anus ( where the E.coli could pass through together the feces). So when a woman washes or wipes out her anus..there are insatnces that some of the E. coli bacteria goes to the urethra. It will multiply there even it is not their environment. That is causing the infection.Sometimes it is proper hygiene & washing. Few times, our body defenses. Hope this helps. ;0
