Having driven both of these cars, I'd say the short answer is that you can't really go wrong with either one. They're both excellent midsize SUVs. Which one is better, though, depends on what you're looking for.

The main difference is that the Pilot is bigger than the Highlander, and feels like it. From the driver's seat, the Highlander feels more carlike--you sit tall, but less so than in the Pilot, behind a lower, more Camry-like dashboard. It's less intimidating to drive in town, and feels more like a large station wagon than a truck. Its light, easy steering, relatively agile handling, and soft ride reinforce the "Camry-on-stilts" sensation.

Sitting in the Pilot, you feel more like you're driving a "real" SUV. The interior styling is more angular and rugged, with a higher dash and a taller view of the road. But while the Pilot feels far more manageable than, say, a Tahoe, it does feel bulkier and less wieldy than the Highlander in traffic. Its steering feels firm, but handling is slower-witted and heavier-feeling than the Highlander's. It doesn't accelerate or brake as quickly, either.

For rear-seat passengers, there's about the same amount of room in the Pilot and Highlander--plenty. If you need a seven-seater, though, the Pilot is better. It's still cramped in the third-row seat, but it's better than in the Highlander's, which is really for kids only. Cargo space is ample in both, but the Pilot offers more.

The Pilot offers only one engine--a medium-sized V6. It's plenty strong for everyday driving (the Pilot will outrun a V8 Tahoe or Expedition, for example), but throttle response feels slow, like it was tuned for a "trucky" feel.

The Highlander offers more choice. The base four-cylinder is relatively economical, but very pokey. The optional V6 makes the Highlander about as strong as the Pilot, with even quicker, more carlike response. The Hybrid Highlander, meanwhile, is actually very fast, but only averages about 30 MPG. That mileage is an improvement over the regular V6's, but not a huge one, and the Hybrid's $33K starting price is significantly higher than the Pilot's.

Reliability, resale value, and safety ratings are excellent in both vehicles--part of what makes them good choices. The Pilot goes for between $28K-$35K, while a similarly-equipped V6 Highlander costs $26K-$32K. You'll average about 20 MPG in both, and be able to tow 3,500 pounds in the Toyota, or 4,500 in the Honda. If you really want the four-cylinder Highlander, you can get it for $25K-$26K.

Overall, I'd get the Highlander if you prefer the feel of a car, and don't truly need big-SUV space. Or, get the Pilot if you want truckier styling and road manners, or really need the extra room.

The Honda Pilot is a little larger i believe, but it is also one of the top stolen cars in the USA. Both are quite good because they are made by toyota and honda, which are very dependable companies, but i would go with the highlander. You can also get the highlander with a hybrid engine set up

i purchased a Honda CRV cuz i did not favor a nil.33 row seat. I drove my friends Rendezvous on a lengthy vacation. i chanced on that it drove more suitable like a mini van than a suv. i'd have loved a llittle more suitable acceleration and wind gusts looked as if it would unsettle the Buick. with the 0.33 seat up they have little or no room in the back of it. (it does fold down) customer comments says: The Rendezvous is derived from GM's minivans. the second one-row seating contains both 2 captain's chairs or a bench seat. An non-obligatory 0.33-row seat that folds into the floor will strengthen seating to seven. a three.5-liter V6 is the purely engine for 2007 and altered the three.4-liter we examined. the front-wheelchronic is the purely version provided. the interior makes use of low-cost-looking supplies, and the gauges are difficult to study. The vacation is tender, and handling is look after inspite of the actuality that reluctant. The Rendezvous would get replaced by skill of the more suitable present day Enclave. power all 3 and observe what feels the superb to you. ,,^._.^,,

The honda pilot is better because it can fit more people and it slightly cheaper.
