It is a friends dog who I haven't seen in a few years. She is terrified of having to have her put down and I am insisting that she take it to a vet. I am on limited income and I can't imagine the poor girl, who's nose is dry as the sahara, suffering while my 'friend' takes care of her own daily business. Any suggestions?

I am looking to help this dog in it's present home, it is fed and loved. Unfortunately the owner recently had to put down to cats due to feline luekemia and she is afraid of bad news for her 7 year old who looks on the dog as his.

Let her know, the longer she takes to get him to the vet, the more expensive it will be, and the bigger chance that they WILL have to put him down. Take him to the Vet now! Make her understand that her dog is in pain! Most vets will help work with you if you can't afford the operation.

She really needs to take it to the vet...the longer she takes the less chance the dog has of surviving any surgeries that might need to happen. And in the end, if there is nothing to do for the dog (the tumors are malignant and spread, etc.) she needs to understand the most humane thing to do is put the dog down. It's very sad, I understand, I had to do it to my dog. But is it fair to keep your dog alive if it's in constant pain? Also, the medication the dog could require to stay alive and not in pain (assuming it has severe cancer) is so expensive and sometimes doesn't even work.

Only a vet can tell. It could be fatty tumors that are benign or it could be cancerous. I'd be more worried about the right, rear one. In some cases, vaccines can cause injection site cancer.

Make her understand why she needs to take her to the vet and if she cant you should call vets that come to houses to take a look at her.

Call the humane society. Obviously she's not worried one bit about this dog's heath, therefore it's animal abuse.
