I doubt that she was abused - Shar Pei can be extremely uncooperative dogs! They can be very aggressive towards other animals and people. They can be stubborn and very hard to train. They also can have health problems with their skin and eyes. Some are terrific pets, but I wouldn't recommend them unless you've got a lot of experience with guard dog or fighting dog breeds.

You should read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

Shar-Pei's are such fickle little ones. Trying a body harness where the pup wears it for a while first. Collars are very hard on Shar-Pei's. Once the pup gets used to the harness try leading it around by hand gently and work up to the leash. However, do not leave the harness on too long...their skin is so sensitive/same with collars. Had the same problem with an un-abused pup. Took lots of love...and gentle persistence. Be patient and loving.

Practice makes perfect. You have to keep trying with her and encourage her constantly. In addition, even if she walks a foot on a leash, make a big deal out of it and reward her with love, pets and even a treat if necessary. You will need to show her what the acceptable behavior is though which may entail dragging her by the leash until she understands. However, you shouldn't have to do that very often if she moves at all since the love and reward situation is what she will remember. Since she is so young, it should not take her long to get over it so just be patient and consistent and she will learn with your support. Good luck!! DOGS RULE!!

I would say to take it very easy with her. Maybe buy her a harness instead of a collar. It won't pull on her neck that way. I would also say let her get use to the leash by making her wear it 24/7 except when she is in her cage to sleep and while you are away ( I hope you are doing that too). give her treats to walk on it and little distances in the house like from one room to the other. It can take time but she will get use to it. I have a an English bulldog that was terrified of steps but now takes them with ease. Just takes time and patience.
Good Luck!

your pup isn't old enough to have abused for long so that's not the problem you just have a stubborn puppy the very best way to leash break a puppy is to hand the leash to a 10 yr old child, they will just take off and go and will not be concerned about whether the pup wants to go or not, as soon as the pup figures that she had better watch that kid to see what he's going to do, you will have a good leash broke dog
also watch the Dog Whisperer on NGC - fantastic!

If she is okay with other dogs I would borrow a friends and walk them together-they tend to learn from each other and I have always had good luck with this tactic. Also don't baby her when she is stressed. Dogs, although our babies, don't think like humans and you could send the signal that stress is the right way to feel. You must be calm, not pull on the leash and have her next to you. Try www.ngcdogwhisperer.com for the best advice. Good Luck.

If you just got her, Shar-peis can be very stubborn dogs. But can be trained. I use to work in a shelter - And nobody had patience for them. But I took him (named Mr. Wrinkles) under my wing and trained him to be the perfect pet. It was hard but it was also sad to see him go, He became a good friend. But at least he got a good home. My advise is let her know whose boss, no matter how much resistance.

Take her to the backyard and first let her play with it so she can see it's not going to hurt her. Then put it on her and let her run around with it on. After a little while, pick it up and try walking with her. I had to do this with my chow puppy, and now he walks on a leash with no problems. But I have to put the leash up high cause now he thinks it's a toy lol.

He has have been given a factor Gart. If all of us used produce that replaced into in season too it may help with international warming as gasoline does no longer be mandatory to delivery out of season stuff. I savor that there are some human beings in spite of the indisputable fact that who can't take care of to pay for clean produce or are no longer cookery minded so they'll hotel to using packets and tins. Time too performs an element with the common public of Mums working those days. i in my opinion in basic terms like using clean. sure, it may be very exciting to work out Delia on the F observe lol !!!!

You've probably heard of the show "The Dog Whisperer" - with Cesar Milan? He is always talking about how we (the owners) are projecting and adding to their fears and/or insecurities. Our tension in our body and mind on how the dog is feeling/reacting just adds to their tension and feelings/reactions. He says (and you should really watch his shows) that WE need to be in a calm and confidant state of mind and WE need to lead (be the "pack leader") in order for the dog to FOLLOW and trust us. You really must see him work and follow his advise, a lot of his shows address this type of issue. Best of luck and address this now since you will hopefully have this pet around for a long time. You will both be much happier.
