Its an overgrowth of bacteria in your body that causes vaginal itching, a white, thick discharge and redness on your vagina. Its treatable with meds or creams. It can be caused by stress, a lowered immune system, taking antibiotics, or pregnancy. Basically anytime your hormones get out of whack a yeast infection can occur. To help prevent them you should avoid wearing any underwear that is not cotton, and dont wear tight fitting pants. This causes a warm moist environment, and yeast thrives off of it.

A vaginal yeast infection is an excess growth of yeast cells in the yagina. Yeast infections are very common in women of childbearing age but can occur at any age. Although they can be uncomfortable, vaginal yeast infections rarely lead to serious health problems. See your gynocologist to confirm it is a yeast infection and NOT an STD which can really make you sick. They are treated with Monistat or your local grocery store's generic, usually a Miconazole Nitrate cream that you insert into the vagina and also spread around the vulva to ease discomfort.

It's an infection in your vagina. It's caused from an imbalance of bacteria. There's normal bacteria there, and when the balance of bad and good bacteria goes out of whack you'll get a yeast infection. You'll need some over the counter cream like Vagasil to get rid of it if you have one.

A yeast infection is exactly what it sounds like. Yeast got into your vagina. And, finding warm and wet, decided to reproduce and feed on the mucus.
