do 12 pushups..take a little break (30 seconds-1 minutes)
then do 12 again
then do 12 again

there u have it, 3 sets of 12 reps

12 reps means to do the exercise 12 times without stopping.

3 sets means to do the above, then rest, then do two more for a total of three.

I believe that you have to do the exercise 12 counts with a break for 3 times. So totally you are doing it 36 times.

repeat an exercise 12 times. Rest then do it again 12 times. rest once more then do it a final 12 times

if you work out you should do 3 sets or 3x12 take a break like a minute or two then do a the next set until you get to 36
