We have been going out for almost nine months and I love this person dearly. I can't picture my life without them. They feels the exact same way, but I just don't know if they are ready for marriage? I mean I wouldn't marry right away, I would stay engaged for a while, but even mentioning marriage to them, would that scare them if they are not ready for that type of commitment?

It could scare them. It all depends on the person. But if it's something you really want, it's probably worth it. You just have to think - if you're not going to get married soon, why have the conversation now? If you're not sure that they're ready for marriage yet, maybe you should let them be fore awhile. Bring it up when you feel confident that they won't be scared off. I'm sure you'll get to that point - or maybe they'll surprise you by bringing it up before you do! You never know. I guess I just mean, why get engaged at all if you're not going to get married soon. Engagement really means that you're ready for marriage...and you sound like it's not in your near future.

Just think about it a lot before you bring it up. Good luck!

You will know when the time is right. Sometimes the partner may be waiting on a sign from you. Talk about this with him if you are serious. Honesty is a major aspect of a healthy relationship.

It might scare them if they aren't looking for commitment. Give it time....9 months isn't that long......
