I heard a woman in the hall at work today going on and on about its safe to have it and then get pregnant afterwards and how much of a miracle it was for her. My cousin just had it and I've heard that she's really dropping the lbs. She said that she hurt quite a bit afterwards but she loves the results.

Here's what I know for a fact..

1. Its pretty risky.. that is if you have a history of heart problems, otherwise its fine to have it.
2. they cut and connect your intestines in other ways, and places and then hook the system back up again.
3. The recovery time is a little bit because of how sore you will be.
4. Its the most invasive, costly, and dramatic way to lose weight.
5. It is also probably not advised for people who are not obese and are just looking to trim up a little.

I have to ask - why do you want to get gastric bypass surgery??? I could have had gastric bypass. I was 130 pounds over weight (which is a lot when you are only 5' tall) and was on the verge of some very serious blood sugar problems (every time I ate sugar I would get dizzy, sick to my stomach, feel like I was going to pass out, break into a sweat, and sometimes even see black spots). Did I have surgery? NO. Gastric bypass pisses me off. Its like telling people to go ahead and not take care of themselves because then insurance will go ahead and make you skinny anyway.

Try a diet. I lost 30lbs in 3 months by totally cutting out carbs. Now over time I have lost 50. I'm no longer a candidate for gastric bypass. I'm still overweight, but I'm not morbidly obese. I'm still struggling to lose weight and its not happening very fast. But I'm sticking to weight watchers and am losing 2lbs/wk. It would be a heck of a lot easier to engorge myself with food and gain the 50lbs back and go have the surgery, but what do you gain from having a doctor make you skinny..you haven't acheived anything but getting fat.. not very rewarding if you ask me.

Gastric bypass is dangerous.. I know many people who have had it. Did you know that if you don't eat enough protien after surgery your hair will all fall out?? And it doesn't teach you how to eat. Thats the most important thing. They say there are all these restrictions, and at the beginning there are, but in the end, people start eating junk again.. while you wont gain weight, you are still at risk for all kinds of medical problems.. heart disease is not a fat persons disease and cholesterol does not discriminate.

My advice is to go on a healthy diet. Try south beach for a couple weeks and see if you don't start to lose weight. By the way, thats eating all you want of lean meat (chicken, fish, lean beef), veggies (excluding peas, corn, potatoes, and carrots), and lowfat cheese. This phase is for at least 2 weeks. I gaurantee after 2 wks you will have lost some weight and you will want to keep going. And get up and exercise. There are women at my gym that weight upwards of 400lbs and they come in and walk on the treadmill 40 min a day and do the weight training 3 times a week. If you join a gym (mine's only $40/month) look for one with a nutritional advisor or go find one for yourself. Join ediets.com they have advisors to help you pick a diet that works for you and stick with it. Join weight watchers and go to meetings and have encouragement from other people.

Oh, another problem with gastric bypass is that you drop weight so quickly that you don't have time to tone your body. While you will always have extra skin after losing weight, if you do exercise and strength traning w/a healthy diet, you will have less because you are toning your body.

I dont wanna be a disappointment to ya, but my good friend had it about a year ago. It has had its ups and downs for her. She was expecting this "miracle" to happen and she would look like JLO overnight......well, she did lose 150 pounds, but stopped there. She has to eat very small portions of food at a time, drink plenty of water, and watch herself to keep from overeating. In my personal opinion, unless you have medical problems that require a drastic intervention, I would rather be fat and get to eat than to constantly be cut off...lol...seriously. It seems like torture to me. If she wants to enjoy a good meal, she can only eat a little bit and then she has to get a take home plate. Its no fun to her. Of course shes glad she lost some weight, but a smaller size doesnt always equal a happier you. Good luck either way.

Gastric Bypass Surgery / intra gastric balloon/gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her revision surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Homeopathic Treatment for Excessive Fat and Weight :-
PHYTOLACCA BERRY's Mother Tincture is perhaps the safest and sure fire way of loosing excessive fat around abdomen. With Phytolacca Berry once you loose the excessive fat and weight you don't get it back because you body takes care of itself after that and keeps you from gathering up excessive fat. It is prescribed after having a baby too, to get the tummy to loose its flab and to make it flatter and tighter. And after loosing weight with this you don't get flabby it tightens up the flab and skin along with helping your body to shed the excessive accumulation of fat around the girth
The dosage is 15 to 20 drops of the tincture in half a cup of hot water thrice a day half hour before or after meals.
Avoid Chocolates, Coffee, Mints, Red Meat and Carbonated and Alcoholic drinks while taking Homeopathic Medicines. You have to take it for at least 30 to 45 days after that you start to feel the results.
To the best of my knowledge its the safest and the most sure fire way of loosing fat and weight and keeping it of for keeps. Excellent remedy for Obese people who cant seem to shed weight despite trying.
Homeopathic Remedies can be found at all Major Herbal Stores or could be bought on line, In most of the world Homeopathic remedies are quite cheap and easy to find and they do not need a prescription.
Take care and God Bless !
