HELL NO!!! i work in a customer service call center and have to hear this all day "the customer is always right" crap when its just not true. alot of times at my work people are calling to complain about something because they didn't read thru the terms of use...so what can i say besides its not our fault your didn't read it. and alot of tI'mes just cause the customer got upset about something small they want 3 or 5 months free of the service that i work for...so again im just like sorry, u didn't read thru the terms its not our fault. if it was a legitimate problem we have to help and accommodate the best we see fit. i think the person that came up with that slogan needs to be beat..cause those 5 little words just make my job harder...i would quite but i get paid really good, i just get tired of hearing that crap.

Well when I am shopping and the cashier trys to charge me more than the actuall price or the danged thing doesn't even scan then yes by all means I am right, but if it is my store and I am trying to get the kids to stop running around and not break everything in site and I tell the mother that she is going to have to buy it if they don't stop then the customer is not right, I am. That rule was fine 50 years ago when everyone had respect for their neighbors and everyone in town was your neighbor, these days it takes falling asleep to get a nod outa someone.

Of course the customer isn't always right.... but if you want to keep your job or you want your business to succeed, you MUST treat this customer as if he/she was. That's the rule of doing business.
The main problem we have today, especially with workers under 30 is that they don't seem to have learned that lesson and as a result we have been suffering from bad service from any sector they're a part of, with little or no recourse.
It would be great if every teenager would be taught that lesson early in their worklife for the rest of our sakes, though.

HELL NO not all the time. Maybe 10% of the time they are right (10% being friends, family, and the cool customers) the other 90% are often wrong about one thing or another.

Its just a marketing jargon. If you really start believing in customer is always right you wont have anything left.Best pretend that they are right and go about your work.

I believe there is a big difference between the customer being right and having the right to be abusive in their right to be right.

heck no.. but I do believe that the person providing service has to attempt to keep their cool when dealing with a customer is convinced that he/she is right. As sool as the service person loses their cool they have lost. I'd rather go get a supervisor to deal with person instead of losing my cool. You should see the crap I see doing customer service at a casino in Reno, NV after people have lost hundreds and thousands of dollars. Not a pretty picture.. let me tell ya.

I don't think it was ever meant to be taken literally, but you pretend they are and slap a smile on your face to boot, otherwise you can kiss their business good-bye. Real customer service has become rare these days in my opinion. Probably because retailers have to deal with things like people trying to return garments that have been worn and the like.

Always treat your customer well. Be tolerant if they complain. You are in business to get customers and for customers to return.
