is it strange to anyone else that when people argue religion, someone often seems to get forceful and tell everyone that we have no right to enforce our opinions on others...isn't that what is being done in that response?

I think there is a great difference between trying to persuade someone by reason, and bringing people into a particular behaviour, by the force of a law. It's not the same if I invite you to hear mass, than if a state forbids you from working on Christmas Day, just because it's a religious festivity.

There will always be people out there who feel the need to cram their beliefs down everyone else's throat.

As a matter of fact, some of these people feel so strongly that they'll blow themselves, you, and anyone else within a 100 yard radius to kingdom come just to prove a point.

I don't think its irony, just human nature. Humans in general want to be right, and when they are questioned they get uppety. Though the blame falls on all sides. Those that argue relgion, and those that argue no religion. We are all only human.

Ya - true - This happens when people become over obsessed with their beliefs. We have to look at all possibilities and more importantly respect others for their belief. Belief is something that a person has a right to do - No person should be questioned on their belief.

Telling you to stop is not an opinion, it is protection of "personal space" in an emotional/verbal/intellectual sense.

In a sense, you could liken it to being a child and your parents are telling you to eat the peas on your plate. They're wanting you to eat the peas because they are good for you is an opinion...your refusing is not an opinion but a protection of what YOU personally believe to be true for you.

You need to get out more, that happens in more then just religion, it happens in politics, even in science.

Like a political group demanding a company share holder be a dictator and stop the creation of one of it's product because it makes a 'democratic' countries leader look bad.

So they use their freedom to pressure others into not practicing their freedom because it offends them.

Religion is based upon tradition and insight from those who were important in the relgion.

Let's take, for example, the concept of Divorce. The Bible, an authoritative document, specifically says only adultery is grounds for divorce. Jesus enforced this concept, according to his biographers and scribes.

That's the conservative concept and those arguing for it would stick to their guns and challenge anyone who thinks otherwise, because it is a tenent in their belief system.

Now, Jesus was a reformist and one can speculate that in today's world he might soften his view. But we have no proof of that!

The Protestant way is for the individual to interpret the Bible as they see fit.

Understand we run into some problems.

Like should be with like means we segreate men, women, blacks, Asians, etc.

The view of Jesus that you must love your neighbor as you love yourself and his going into the Lepar colonies, and his defense of Mary Magdeline shows that he was a liberal thinker who defied some traditions.

Now we have homosexulaity, which is also frown upon by the bible. People like me wonder if it's predestination and if GOD intended them to be that way and if so are WE questioning GOD's Widsom or Purpose. But this is a very radical and liberal way of thinking.

Next, what of the Fornicators. Does religion allow people to run off and have orgies and try girls and guys out to see who they like best in bed before marriage and do we still call that Christianity and Religion?

Pretty soon we're giving rights to pediphiles and people who have sex with animals.

You have to draw a line in the sand. That's where the arguments, the challenges and the headstrong opinons come from. That line in the sand and each person draws their own distinct line at some liberal or consdervitive point in time and space!

When push comes to shove, if you tell someone, hey it's OK and Christian to get a divorce and on the day of reckonining God sees that in the book of life and declares YOU ARE WRONG, sorry, you (and they) don't go to heaven, then you take your own chances.

You defy God (and or the bible) openly or you defend God openly.

You can live or die on that choice.

Some choose to take the bible Literally, others Figuratively.

Some call it Gospel, others call it Parable.

If the division line with God is hard and fast, then one of those groups goes to Heaven and the other groups goes into the lake of fire.

If God grants get out of jail free cards or makes exceptions or bases a decision on your intent, then you might be doing the right thing.

My approach is simple. I don't do things for rewards. I do them, because I belive them to be the right, great, magnanimous thing to do.

If it get's me in trouble with God, so be it.

To those who take the hard line approach and God says, nope, it was a trick question and you failed, then they have to say "so be it!"

Free will. You decide which direction, which road to take.

You decide at what age a girl or guy and be sexually violated. 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18?

You decide how many sex partners to have before marriage. 1, 2, 3, 4 or as the stats say 12.9 for guys and 9.8 for women.

You decide if Osama Bin Laden should be executed (or Adolph Hitler, or Charlie Manson) or not.

You decide if it's ok to marry your 2nd cousin, 1st cousin, sister or mother!

YOu decide if it's ok to divorce your husband or wife.

Utlimately, God decides who goes to heaven and who don't and we don't God's Critera.

Some say just beleiving in Jesus is enough.

Some say it's a get out of jail free card.

Other's say it is not and that Jews may get to heaven, heathens may get to heaven, athiests may get to heave, Muslims may get to heaven, Homosexuals may get to heaven and Billy Graham may not!

God will be the ultiamte decider. I have decided not to question God, nor to put up a fight. I don't do things for rewards.

here's the way the world of religion works... you can disprove them scientifically all day long but they are too head strong to look at the facts! i am a very open minded person and i tend to use common sense!
