I came home and found her bleeding, her eye popped out a little, and a puncture wound to the top of her head from a bite. I am still in shock. Has this happened to anyone else? Will she be blind? The vet sewed her eye shut until the swelling goes down and did not give a clear diagnosis of what to expect.

It will depend on how badly the eye was damaged if the dog will go blind. As long as you took her to the vet don't freak out, just do what the vet said and she what happens. If this doesn't make her blind then she will probably go blind as she gets older. Hope your dog gets better!!

Did the Vet sew her eye shut temporarily? If so then maybe she the Vet wants to keep anything from penitrating the eye and causing more infecton. Keep an eye on it, and follow the Vet's instructions. Heopfully, she will make a full recovery. Also, make sure the other dog has no other infections or diseases.

my chihuahua was attacked by a dog and the same thing happened the dog will be OK but be blind in the wounded eye and the eye most likely protrude a little after the swelling goes down and you will need to keep the two dogs separate from each because it could happen again it did to my dog

The eye can be put back in place, as you've seen, but whether vision is preserved depends on whether there was damage to either the retina or the optic nerve. Unfortunately this cannot be determined easily. The only thing to do is to re-position the eye, get inflammation down and prevent infection; then, in a few days evaluate the eye for vision. Even your vet can't predict with certainty how it will turn out.

My grandmother had a dog whose eye popped out, and the vet sewed it shut in the same fashion. After the swelling went down, she was able to see fine. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened. My cat was shot with a shotgun this weekend, and he is in the hospital unable to walk, so I feel your pain. Pets are like people, and you worry about them just the same. Good luck to you and your pet.

maybe he doesnt no the extent of damage to the swelling goes down. its possibile the dog could become blind if there was damage like scratches or cuts. our cat had eye removed after a fight it got along fine but when they do they will have sometime adjusting just keep them in less lighted area's to lay stress of the one eye, thats what our vet said about our cat...

My Chihuahua had a similar injury - though the eye didn't prolapse - she is blind in the injured eye.

Best of luck with your little dog.

since the vet doesnt know, then we have an even smaller chance of knowing, because after all, he is a professional. i really hope your dog comes out of it ok, chihuahuas are sooo cute. just listen to anything the vet told you to do, to care for the eye.

Call your vet back, and ask him/her what to expect. I'm surprised the vet didn't give you a return visit date.
