In a frying pan on med heat add a decent sized pat of butter and swirl it around to cover the bottom of the pan. Add some thinly sliced pears and allow them to cook in the butter until softened slightly and they just start to brown. Add a few pinches of sugar and pour in enough basalmic vinegar to evenly coat the pear slices. Allow to simmer a few minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the liquid thickens a little.

Serve these over vanilla ice cream, pound cake or over puff pastry that you've cut into small squares and baked with some sugar dusted on them.

It sounds weird to mix vinegar and pears, but it is absolutely delicious and seems very fancy in comparison to how little time it takes to prepare them.

I love the recipe I saw on demo today.
chocolate bundles by Paula
first she bought chocolate dove pieces
then she cut philo sheets into four.
Then she mixed two eggs with heavy cream
and beat. She brushed the philo with this
and it the middle of each square put about
three to four pieces of candy.
Then she brought the four corners up like little purses or bundles.
Then brushed them with the egg mixture.
Put them into a preheated 350 degree F oven
for about ten minutes until the puff browns and cocolate melts.
In the meantime heat some heavy cream up and melt some chocolate into it.
Prepare plate with a circle of chocolate cream
set the cute little bunde in the middle.
Cut it in half and open it up and inbetween the pieces put some whipped cream.Garnish with a big strawberry and drizzle some of the melted chocolate cream sauce over it.It looks so cute.

For fancy, you can buy a sponge cake and put it in the bottom of a round casserole or somesuch, layer it with cut fruit and whipped cream (a trifle),

Or make dessert pizza; squish a roll of store bought sugar cookie dough into the bottom of a pizza pan and cook it...mix a package of cream cheese with a small jar of marshmallow fluff and spread it on (after the cookie is cool) and cover with cut fruit.

In other words, cut fruit is easy and looks impressive on stuff.

Well if you're looking for a "desert", I would search Arizona.

If you're looking for a "dessert" that is simple, I would suggest a few different things:

Ice Cream Sundaes (Ice Cream, toppings, imagination!)

Apple Delights (http://dessert.allrecipes.com/az/pplDlight.asp)

Caramel Apple Dip (http://dessert.allrecipes.com/az/CrmlpplDip.asp)

Chocolate Eclair (http://dessert.allrecipes.com/az/ChcltclirDssrt.asp)

Lemon Pull-Aparts (http://nyny.essortment.com/lemonfruitscit_mfd.htm)

Cheesecake, Brownie Sundaes, Snowballs & more (http://www.ottawavalleynews.info/snacks.htm)

Mississippi Mud (http://community.southernliving.com/showthread.php?t=3507)

And if you want it to LOOK fancy but still be simple, try:

Sauteed Pears with honey (http://www.ottawavalleynews.info/snacks.htm)

Hope those help. Good luck.

Fruit Filled Pavlova
==============
Pavlovas are hard meringues filled with a creamy sweet filling. Using deli fruit salad makes this dessert recipe very simple. You can usually find superfine sugar in the baking aisle of your grocery store. If you can't, simply process regular sugar in a food processor until it's ground very fine. This sugar is used so it dissolves quickly in the meringue. Or, for Passover, make your own Passover Powdered Sugar.
INGREDIENTS:
2 egg whites, at room temperature
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
2/3 cup sugar
2 cups deli fruit salad, well drained, OR 2 cups mixed fresh fruit
3/4 cup whipping cream
3 Tbsp. superfine sugar, powdered sugar, or Passover powdered sugar
PREPARATION:
Place the egg whites in a small mixing bowl and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, draw a 10 inch circle on a piece of wax paper and place (writing-side down) on a baking sheet.
Add vanilla and cream of tartar to egg whites.

I just read about an easy one in a magazine. Twinky-Strawberry cake.
place twinkies in a cake pan cutting them to make them fit. fill in the cracks with cool whip. Turn upside down on cake plate and cover with cool whip and a layer of slices strawberries.
Make a second row of Twinkies on top of the first and cover with cool whip and whole or sliced strawberries. You could decorate it with red sprinkles if you like.

Another one is cool whip pie. Take or make a gram cracker crust and bake it for 7.30 minutes. Let it cool. use 1 tub of cool whip and 1/2 bar of Philly cream cheese. blend together until smooth. Add 1/4 cup or 1/2 of lemon, or lemon lime or orange powdered sweetened koolaide mix.. to your taste. blend together, put in pie shell and chill for at least 15 minutes in freezer. I changed this up by using pink lemon-aide and loved it.

make a simple cake mix in a bundt pan. Microwave 2 different color frostings ( I do yellow cake and strawberry & vanilla frostings). The frostings will become liquid and then drizzle them all over the cake let cool (it will firm up) and then repeat until you have a really cool layer of frosting and it looks beautiful! Get creative. This is nice looking, easy and inexpensive.

Jello... add some fruit to the gelatine (follow the box to know which fruits work well) and add whipped cream on the top to make it look fancy. Garnish with cherries.
