You should look into the Malleus Maleficarum. I own a copy of it and it gives me nightmares.

The Spanish Inquisition was brought about because many Jews in Spain were, for economic and social purposes, claiming to be Christian, yet continued to live as Jews, thereby bringing scandal upon the overwhelmingly Christian community.

Jews living as Jews is one thing. Jews claiming to be Christians, but living as Jews, is a whole different thing.

The government of Spain was also largely Christian at that time, so "inquiries" were made.

Of course, the guilty parties denied their involvement in the matter, yet many eye witnesses were available to testify truthfully as to their conduct.

As torture was considered acceptable as an interrogation aid in those days, a number of Jews were tortured. Some were found not guilty. Others were found guilty, and were fined or punished in other ways.

While religion was at the center of the problem, it was the civil authorities in Spain who were charged with the primary duty of prosecution and enforcement, not the church.

Look at what's going on in the world today with Muslims and terrorism, and see if those who lived during the inquisition acted that much differently than people today.

Catholic bashers ... don't waste your time with this stuff! There's plenty of persecutions and scandals at the hands of protestants that we can write about, if necessary.

You guys that recommend Chick need to study your history a bit better. You're being deceived and you're spreading lies, too. That guy never met a truth he couldn't stretch to the point of ridiculousness, all in big budget, glorious black and white!

People are sinners, no matter what their beliefs. That's why we all need a redeemer.

What?! There was an inquisition?!

I studied history and have 2 degrees in it - any 6th grader knows of the inquisition.

Do you know the truth about the inquisition? I mean the real truth, not just the crap you probably watched on TV somewhere.

Yes it is often cited by atheist as evidence against the truth of Christianity. However what they always overlook is that many of the people being killed were Christians who were in fact trying to more faithfully follow the teachings of Christ. So in reality it is more evidence for Christianity being true. These Christians suffered and died as did the early Christians and Christ himself.

Yes, what's your point ? Did you hear about Hitler? Did you hear about Rwanda? The history of the world is full of egotistical tyrants trying to control the populous. You learn from history, so you don't repeat it.
Looks like alot of people didn't take their history courses very seriously.

Catholics didn't kill anyone. They only sought out heretics and handed them over to the law. They whole myth is made up about all the evils the Catholics did during the Inquistion. It was a good and holy event. Stop making up lies and propagating them.
