You probably just need a job. If you can't work because a mental illness prevents you or if you have a job already but when you get home from work you pace then you need a good hobby or interest because you are bored. A hobby I have that I would recommend is to buy several books on trees, or use the web sites that help you identify a tree, and go out down your street and take pictures and make observations to identify trees, such as pin oak, or silver maple, or honey locust, etc. Or, if you don't like trees get books on birds and go bird watching. So long as you're outside enjoying the fresh air, getting some sun, and doing something you enjoy.

Yes Katie it does. I to suffer from this and I know its no fun. What you have to do is learn to put positive thought s in your head and stop worrying about things. There are many good books to help but I would also suggest counseling and a support group. Don't be ashamed of it, in America its the fasting growing problem with little funding. With our fast pasted lives, outrageous cost, poor pay, greedy corporation who at a drop of a hat will lay people off and ship jobs to China, an outrageous over priced health-care system its no wonder anxiety and depression are growing so fast. And you know what our government could care but less for they have everything given free to them. Basically its a money grab in the US and every person for them selves type attitude! But, don't fret!!!! Here is a good book and a web pages to look at. Also Medication is not the answer!!! Its only a stop gap measure at best with some bad side effects..
One more thing if left untreated it can lead to depression so seek help.
Take care good luck and don't give up!

This could definetely be from anxiety. When I first started having anxiety attacks, I paced like crazy. See a doctor before your possible problem escaltes into you not being able to go to school or work. Anxiety attacks are horrible until you get them under control. Good Luck.

pacing has been linked to anxiety and stress for century's, it's also something inherited, my son does this all the time, and yes he does have adhd, but they are not necessarily linked. sometimes people need to pace to clear there head, or work out problems, and some times they do it because there worried and there mind requires them to do something with themselves. if the pacing is annoying to you, try relaxing..or doing something with your hands, if it isn't annoying you, then don't worry about it this is a perfectly normal habit.

Check with your doc if it's bothering you. Research on the web "Lexepro." Anti-anxiety anti-depressant. Few side affects.
If it's not bothering you, pace away. I do my bestthinking with a little OCD. Many giants in history wore out the rugs.

It has a lot to do with anxiety, or it may just be a chemical imbalance, our bodies change as we get older. The way we deal with situation are different as we get older too. Talk to your primary care doctor.

It sounds like you are exhibiting symptoms of mania or anxiety, which include racing thoughts and not being able to sit still. This is not normal.
