I have found this quite annoying. The funny thing is she doesn't vacuum anywhere else except my room. She doesn't appear to be sleep walking and when I ask her about it the next day she simply laughs it off and complains about her arthritis. What steps should i pursue?

I remember when my mom used to wake up during the night and come to sew (sewing machine noise) in the room next to mine. Hers was caused by "change of life" and perspiring heavily during the night so she couldn't sleep and tried to keep herself busy till morning arrived. Maybe this is your mom's situation.

I'm thinking also that some sleeping pills these days (it's been on the news) make you sleepwalk and people have even driven in their car to places and never knew they left their bed. Is your mom fully awake when this vacuuming happens? Or is she wondering what you are doing up at that hour?

Or, depending on your age perhaps your mom is merely concerned for your safety, and wants to just make sure you're safely in your room.
You didn't say if you are sleeping at 2AM or not but maybe because she sees you are awake she just wants to keep busy cause she can't sleep.

Ha....you guess is as good as mine.

If I were you I'd just come out and ask her why she vacuum at that hour, and present her with the above ideas. I don't think she needs a shrink or a doctor.

Lock your door?

I'm no psychologist but it sounds as if your mother may be suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder or perhaps some kind of minor dementia (senility). Is she doing any other bizarre repetitive tasks? She should have herself evaluated, and you need the sleep.

You don't say how old you are. Maybe you can talk to a school counselor, but I'm guessing they might think you're the crazy one. It's an odd story. I've never heard of it before.

try unplugging the vacuum when she's in your room. then ask her what
she's doing in there at that time. if she gives you and off the wall anwer she could be sleep walking. also it could be her way of annoying you because you have annoyed her maybe by not cleaning your room. any way
my son use to sleep walk go down stairs to the utlity with eyes wide open and
piss in my dryer. do you have anyother people who live with you just incase
she does wake up cause she could go into shock. try guiding her back to bed.
then seek help cause there is somthing that has happend to her that she's
keeping locked in her subconscience. Good Luck.

Have her sent to my house around 3am, I need the downstairs vacuumed at least twice a week.

But seriously. She still could be sleep walking... or vacuuming.

See a doctor about this sleep disorder. And hide the vaccum one night and see what she does.

She may be having passive aggressive behavior trying to communicate to you a reason to get something done - like clean your room on our own - or maybe she wants your attention but does not know how to get it from you. Good luck on this.

Have you tried asking her about it when she's doing it? You may have to take her to see a therapist or psychiatrist. There's something deeper going on that she is not telling you.

Makes me feel scared and sad. I hope she is O.K.

I would imagine that this is disrupting your sleep. Have you tried locking your door?

If it doesn't bother you, and she's not hurting anything, leave her alone. At least you will have very clean floors!

Lock your door, or prop it closed somehow. It sounds like she doesn't want you to sleep anymore.

If she is up at 2 am cleaning she is either mad at you about something or has something on her mind.
