The UN is not what it once was. Although it was started to bring about peace in the world, it has no become corrupt and incapable of action. The UN squanders and fillibusters its way through conflicts. Just look at the conflict in Darfur. The UN won't impose sanctions on israel because it is afraid of upsetting the US and UK. But I think that the biggest reason why the UN is capable of inaction is because the UN has no formal army. The biggestg weapon that the UN has are economic sanctions, and we all know how well those work (Iraq, anyone) That is why the UN won't stop Israel from destroying Lebanon

The United Nations can't do anything to stop Israel, because that would be viewed as throwing their lot in with Hezbollah.
Also, should the UN decide to stop a war, they would have to admit that they were wrong to give away someone else's land in the first place. To tell Israel to stop the killing would be the same as telling Hezbollah that they are in the right.
Isn't it interesting how so far, the World Wars all cause each other?

UN is a bunch of wimps all around.
But c'mon, Israel is directly attacking Hezballah. If they wanted to destroy the whole nation, they would have done it by now. Their strikes are very specific & most of Lebanon is totally peaceful.
I just heard an interview on talk radio with someone in Lebanon, the Christian district who said that it was very peaceful...but we can't say that for the terrorist sites.
Do you have a better idea on how to deal with terrorists who are bent, via their religion (Quran) to destroy the Jews?

the answer's already there-it needs ratification - the UN and Israel refuse.both -STATE answer. Israel for the Jews, West economic organization and Gaza strips for the Palestinians, Jerusalem shared(at present, divided). 3 complications,a million) Israel is bent on ANNEXING the West economic organization and Gaza strips through ethnic cleansing(killing Palestinians retaining their lives and sources by using capturing handmade missiles into the Israelie invader's u . s .) and land thefts.Israel's Likud (earlier the democratically elected Jewish terrorist team, Irgun-surely categorized as such by using the British) REFUSE to recgnize its top Arab counter section, the democratically elected Hamas, 2) The Israelies are making use of their go away OR BE KILLED tactic of 1948 on the Palestinians. ONE HITCH-this time the Palestinians are staying and struggling with the Israeli occupiers(it is not any opposite direction round inspite of Israel's refute) for his or her land and lives, and, 3) For some reason, besides the actuality that the UN has even extra proper grounds to ratify the West economic organization and Gaza strips, Jerusalem divided or no longer, then they did AFTER Israel changed into created antagonistic to UN innovations, the UN refuses to act.

Before you can answer that question you have to research for anything of value that the UN has accomplished in the past half century.
Except for having a nice building constructed on prime land in New York, you can stick its accomplishments in your eye and not feel a thing.
It talks a lot, it primps and strutts about, but nothing except petty and grand corruption comes out of that pretty building.
The UN didn't do anything in the past and it is unlikely that it will do anything in the future.

The UN force in Lebanon is too small to be able to disarm Hezbollah. It would be good thing to enlarge it, but what countries would supply the troops?

Most likely for the same set of reasons that it has done nothing to stop the rockets and suicide bombings that have been coming Israel's way for quite some time.

Because Isreal is justified in its actions. Lebanon and Palestine started it. Isreal is merely defending itself.
