Jesus MIGHT have been a Jew. We know that he was born in Galilee, but the population there wasn't entirely Jewish.

About the genealogy, the pedigree, that supposedly proves Jesus was of the line of King David, hence Jewish. There's one in Matthew, and there's one in Luke. Notice they don't match?

We also know that Jewish religious and secular authorities conspired several times in attempts to "frame" Jesus for sedition against Rome or to violate the Mosaic laws in some way. But Jesus was too smart and too righteous to be tricked.

Finally, though, they got him. The Sanhedrin and the Pharisees accused Jesus and had him brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman provincial governor. Pilate questioned Jesus and found no guilt, and he was disposed to let Jesus go free.

However, the Jews didn't want Jesus to go free. The day after Pilate examined Jesus, a Jewish mob appeared in the street, growling and yowling and posturing like they wanted to start breaking things. (You've seem the act, I'm sure, since they still do it now and then.) With them were several rabbis and high priests who said that the "people" were "outraged" that the "criminal" Jesus was to be set free. The priests warned Pilate that as things were they were "just barely able" to keep the crowd under control... but if Jesus walked, they couldn't be held responsible for the "consequences."

Pilate pondered. If enough Jews started rioting, they could overwhelm the local garrison and force Pilate to call on Rome for military help in suppressing an insurrection. That would make Pilate look bad. Caesar might think he wasn't man enough for his job, and replace him.

That's basically why Pilate washed his hands and sent Jesus off to die, even though he knew that Jesus wasn't guilty of anything. The Jewish leaders put political pressure on him, and he lost his moral courage.

So, basically, the Jews killed Jesus, using the Roman government as a proxy. Does that mean Jesus was NOT a Jew? No. Again, it is not conclusive evidence.

Today, Israel uses the U.S. government in the same way, putting pressure on American officials and causing them to lose their moral courage, so that instead of doing what's right and defying the Jews, the U.S. president and the U.S. congress nearly always capitulate and give them whatever they want, no matter how evil or how immoral it is.

But we don't really know whether Jesus was Jewish or not. He might have been, but it isn't a certainty.

Are you sure? Where did you get that information? Are you sure he was not an Israelite, a Hebrew, and even part Gentile for those who do really study the words of the Bible?

If your assumption is correct and the words of the Bible do require like kind in regards to payment [life for life, eye for eye, etc.] how did a Jew pay for the Gentiles? Was it another miracle or was it pure justified justice?

I read Jesus was from the tribe of Judah, one of the 12 tribes of Israel, thus he is an Israelite. A Jew is a word that refers to blood line and/or religion [see Webster's College Dictionary]. By calling Jesus a Jew which is it that you are referring to? If religion, which religious sect of the Jewish religion?

My friend many times the words we use do not present the correct picture to others. You should smile, think about it and do have a great day.

I guess Jesus was a reformed Jew as opposed to an Orthodox Jew. I wonder what Jesus would think about Christianity, would He be flattered by all the fuss or embarrassed. According to what I've read in the scriptures He was good with crowds, and He was a people person.

No, humanity mostly because the meaning is lost by 'laying blame' on a particular race or sect. as well... if it became "merely the Jews" who killed Jesus, would not it stand to reason that Jesus would then be the savior for "Jews in basic terms"?? very last time I checked, Jews don't have self belief that.

This is something the so-called Christian religions conveniently overlook, especially when he's portrayed as blond-haired, blue -eyed Adonis. They also overlook the fact his followers called him "rabbi" which means "teacher" and not "savior." These two facts alone make modern Christianity a joke - and there are a lot more!
