Chels, what is going to happen is, when you go to your first dentist appointment, you will inform them that you have not seen a dentist for 5 years. Therefore, dental xrays will need to be taken. You will bite into a "bite wing" and xrays will be taken on the front of your teeth, and each sides, to get your molars. From the xrays, the dentist can see if you have any cavities that have decayed into the root. If so, you may need a root canal. If any of your cavities are just on the surface of the tooth, your dentist can extract the layer of damaged tooth on your molars, and fill it with "composite resin. Composite resin is white, and will match the color of your tooth. Now, you will be scheduled for this work, at a next appointment. However, along with the xrays at the first appointment, your dentist will thoroughly clean your teeth, and scrape off any plaque and tartar buildup. Therefore, your teeth and gums may be mildly sore for a day or two. They will provide you with a clean toothbrush, paste and floss. Once the major issues have been taken care of, discuss "invisalign" braces with your dentist. Perhaps you may want to get these. Invisalign are clearless braces that snap on and off of your teeth, and are replaced about every 2-3 months. They straighten the teeth and are good for small gaps such as yours.

You would be amazed at what dentist's can do these days.
Caps are only good for about 5-8 years, depending on the dentist....and orthodontists can work around caps when it comes to braces....go to the dentist....get the work done....i have all kinds of problem teeth...and i'm still eligible for braces....good luck!

caps have to stay, and must be replaced if they come off. If you have dental work, an orthodontist should be able to work around that. And also, as far as silver caps/fillings, there are porcelain alternatives that match the color of your teeth to avoid unsightly silver repairs. The porcelain repairs are slightly more expensive, but they look the best. If your are really concerned, mention your problems to your dentist. They should be able to make sure they don't do anything to interfere with any future orthodontia you may decide to get.

Go to the dentist, if you do have a cavity it is better to have a filling than get an abscess in your tooth and need a root canal later on, besides they can fill the cavity with resin which is the same color as your tooth and nobody could be able to tell you have it. Even if you get fillings you can still get braces.

You really should go to the dentist after 5 years, becuz bad things could be happening that you might not realize like root canal...but, don't worry about getting fillings *they'll numb your mouth so it wont hurt* Caps might last forever but I don't remember, I had my caps fall out when i was little ^^;, I had braces, they will cost though ^^, your smile won't look worse, specially if it's in the back :P

They now fill cavities using an clear substance, so you can't see it! Yay! And fillings do not affect a person getting braces. So go ahead and make a trip to the dentist to fix it all and feel and look better!

It will be more expensive, but you can get white caps. The best thing to do is to visit a dentist that specializes in cosmetic dentistry and ask for an estimate. They can add veneers or caps in order to reduce the appearance of gaps. You may not need braces, but check get with a dentist to be certain. They can refer you to an orthodonist and work in conjuction with him or her to make sure you end up with a smile you're happy with for life.

They usually dont use the silver fillings anymore .. the dentist use this new thing where you dont even know its a filling .. its the same color of your tooth that they re fixing... and they use this really cool blue light thing to dry it .. its weird.. but looks great ! But imagine you would have to get all your dental work .. ie fillings root canals or what ever first before your braces

There are also white caps that can pass for teeth so I wouldn't worry about it. Your teeth HAVE to be healthy for the orthodontist to put braces on them so you definitely want to take a trip to the dentist first.

Go to the dentist for a consultation and get that cavity taken care of. The longer you wait the worse it will get. There are many new dental techniques and you will be surprised at what they are able to do. So stop putting it off.
