It is my understanding that Christmas was invented to mask the fact that pagans were celebrating their own holidays at this time. Since it was bad politics to forbid a conquered people their god, they started christmas so they could celebrate something of their own at the same time.

Funny how it is the only secular holiday that is also a legal holiday. I wonder if that is the strength of the church or easiest to use at this point in history to represent everyone's holiday at that time of year in 1 beaurocratic day off.

Funny also that christmas eclipses the celebration of other holidays by it's sheer grandure - the whole wonderful spectacle. It is the single best advertisement for Christianity every. Every kid of a different faith wishes they were christian too, so they could participate in the marvel of christmas, if only for a time. Those who aren't christian still like to participate and at least temporarily throw their lot in with the christians and wish jesus a very happy birthday - or at least good will toward men. I have an aunt in law who makes us sing happy birthday to jesus every christmas.

Why not celebrate Christmas, that's what I say!

Peace!

Don't know where Christmas is a doctrine (a doctrine is specifically a document that sets guidelines and discusses or clarifies beliefs) nor do I know where in the scripture God forbids us to celebrate anything. Didn't Jesus Christ celebrate with friends at a wedding? Births were celebrated back then.

And Christmas is also tied into the pagan holiday that celebrates the winter solstice. That is where part of the tradition comes from...

It's not an addition to scripture, its a generic observation of the birth of Christ. And the bit about not adding to the Bible was added by the church to have leverage against any other group that wanted to add any other religious texts. The pope still has the ability to add, remove, or change any doctrine in the Bible. Actually, the 25th of December was chosen by the church to belittle the holiday that was celebrated by a rival pagan religion on the same day. After they declared it Christmas, they called the pagans blasphemous for using that day.

I am NOT Christian. What Christians call Christmas is actually an ancient Pagan event called Saturnalia. Almost every "Christmas" tradition is pagan in origin and Christians don't know it. It was celebrated during December 17-25, sound familiar? They brought evergreens indoors during the winter months as an act of symbolic magic because everything died off while evergreen and holly remained green throughout the winter months. Singing beloved Christmas carols is also taken from the pagan tradition along with giving gifts. Jesus was not born on December 25 like your Sunday school teachings preached to you, he was actually born in the summer. His Birthday was moved to coincide with Saturnalia. After the majority of Rome converted to Christianity Saturnalia was dismissed as a holiday because they worshiped the God Saturn and obviously Christians don't have the same God as Pagans. They continued to celebrate during the winter months out of tradition rather than worship.

Why follow a cult like Ang Dating Daan? You have very un-biblical beliefs.

Here are just 5 of them:

1. Rejects the Trinity doctrine and believe the following: Father - Almighty God and over-all Savior. Greater than the Son and the Spirit.

Son - Mighty God but not the Almighty God like His Father. He is equal to the Father as God but not greater than the Father because He was sent. Greater than the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit - part of the Father and the Son and also called God but not a Person. Aside from believing these “three Gods,” he also insists that there exist “many gods” because of 1 Cor. 8:5.

2. He believes the Father who is the Living God was the overall Savior who must be given credit for all the things He has done by sending saviors during the times past (Hebrews 1:1-2).

3. Believes Jesus is a Mighty God but not the Almighty God. Does not believe that He is the only Savior of humanity. The two kinds of salvation that Jesus will do: (1) He was sent primarily to be the savior of the house of Israel (Matthew 15:24) during his humanity (Matthew 1:21) but he is just one among the sent ones to be the savior. (2) On his Second Coming, he will save the believers (members of Soriano’s group). Moses was also sent by the Father to become an instrument of salvation and savior to the Israelites (Acts 7:35-37), while the Apostle Paul (Acts 13:46-47) was a savior to the Gentiles up to the ends of the earth. Timothy was to be the next savior after the apostle Paul’s death.

4. Jesus the Son of the Living God also needs a savior who is his Father, the Living God as allegedly stated in Hebrews 5:7-9. They also believe that Jesus is God and man (though not fully man but just “like” man) quoting Philippians 2:6-7.

5. The meaning of the “house of God” in Psalms 127:1 during the Old Testament is “Church of God” (Iglesia ng Dios) and the name of that church is: Iglesia ng Dios kay Kristo Hesus, Haligi at Saligan ng Katotohanan (Church of God in Christ Jesus. The pillar and the ground of the truth. Philippines). They also believe that a person may be saved even though he has not heard of Soriano’s teachings. He is judged by God according to his conscience. Believes not everybody can preach the Bible but must therefore be a “sent one” who is none other than the founder himself.

I am Christian. I celebrate Christmas as the birthday of Jesus. I realize December 25th is not Jesus' actual birthday, but that's the day I celebrate with my family. Unfortunately, I get caught up in all the commercialism, too. I don't think Christmas should be about presents. God gave us the gift of his only son who then died for our sins so that we could live forever in heaven. I don't emphasize Santa and the gifts as much as I do the birth of Christ.

There is no Christian doctrine on celebrating Christmas. We celebrate it because it is fun & we focus on the birth of Christ (yes I know he wasn't born on Christmas).

Thought, not to be rude, but why drive a car? The Bible never tells us to.
PS- Tradition is not bad, we all have 'em. The only time Tradition becomes bad is when it replaces the truth.

Since when have Jesus and the Bible had anything to do with Christmas? Christmas is a mixing of pagan, and neo-christian doctrines to make both the gullible (christians), and the logical (everyone else) happy on the same day.

Why?
It is symbolic of the birth of Christ.
It's fun.
The decorations and carrols bring beauty to the beginning of winter.
It seems to bring out the good in mankind.
The Christmas movies ranging from It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street to Christmas Story.

Why in view of your arguments . . .
I agree it was not celebrated initially. But why pick on Christmas . . . why celebrate Easter as well? I don't view Christmas as a doctrine just a rememberance. The evidence points to the spring for Christ's birth anyway.

It is a holiday to celebrate the birth of Christ, after all of his workings...

Similar to how artists usually aren't popular until after their death, then their paintings become masterpieces...

Actually, it is rumored that Jesus was born around the Easter season, not Dec. 25...

The reason we celebrate it then may be due to trying to convert the pagans to Christianity... the pagans celebrated on the winter solstice, DEC. 22 i think...

Christians also took the idea of Christmas trees from pagan celebrations...
