Friendofafriend is absolutely correct. Your shampoo's not what's important. You need to be using a good conditioner. Get Pantene's deep conditioner to use weekly and then their conditioner for color-treated hair to use the other days. Shampoo strips your hair...but you've already done that. Now you need to put the nutrients back in. Also, you should consider taking a good multivitamin or pre-natal vitamin so that the new hair growth is healthier and stronger. Hopefully, with a few months away from the dyes and highlights, you can get your hair renourished and feeling healthy again. In the meantime, consider only using the temporary (30 day) dyes in your hair so that there isn't any more damage as it grows out and repairs itself.

Do not buy anything from inside a store. The problem with store brands is that they sell them cheap, which means not a whole lot of money goes into research and development of these products, so they aren't as advanced as salon products. The cheaper ones like suave and white rain strip your hair. It will make your hair more dry and damaged than it already is. The "expensive" ones, like dove and pantene have wax in them. This makes your hair soft and silky and shiny.. then, after the wax builds up it will make your hair dull and flat and lifeless.. then when it builds up somemore, your hair will break off.

Go to a salon. The prices seem outrageous right??? Well think of it this way. You may spend $20 on a liter of shampoo and $20 on a liter of conditioner, but the product is concentrated (meaning they don't just add a bunch of water to it to fill up the bottle). A little bit goes a long way. For someone with fairly thick, just below shoulder length hair, a liter should last about 4-6 months. You only need a dime to quarter sized amount for your hair, depending on the length. So now you are only spending $6-10/month on shampoo and conditioner and it is good for your hair.

Redken makes a shampoo called all soft, I love it. Also, Bed Head Self Absorbed will put protein back in and Moisture Maniac will add moisture. I used to buy a shampoo with one and a conditioner with the other to balance my hair out.

IT DEFINETLY DOES MATTER WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO YOU USE!!!! Good shampoo should not strip your hair, it should clean the dirt out of it. Stripping means taking the moisture and protien out. Cleaning it means removing the dirt. Shampoo gets all bubbly and sudsy and makes the dirt come out easier because it helps disolve the EXCESS oil, not the oil you need. If you use cheap stripping shampoo what good does it do to use a good conditioner. The next day you are going to just strip it all out. You wont get anywhere. If you use a waxy shampoo, the conditioner wont be able to penetrate thru the wax.

Get your hair colored professionally. This will minimize damage because professionals do not overlap color so it will not dry your hair out.

Most importantly.. you cannot really repair damaged hair. You can make it look better but it will always be damaged.. you need to get regular trims every 4-8 weeks to keep it from damaging more.

Suave professionals line has a lot of good ones for about $3. Other than that, there's a good conditioner out there, Feria after color conditioner that I use as a weekly that is great. A tube will cost about $8 if you can find it. It is a little hard to find, but if you have a lot of beauty supply places by you you'll probably be able to get it. Hope this helps.

Wella Soft Colour, with beeswax and honey, contains no ammonia, is semi-permanent, lasts 30 washes, has an amazing conditioner in the box, looks so natural and is very shiny. Then use a good colour protective shampoo & conditioner. No regrowth line, gentle on your hair & scalp. Fantastic!! Forget permanent colours..do try the above, you'll love it. Lots of shades to choose from as well. Very easy to apply yourself,as well. All the best.

Your shampoo doesnt really matter. What matters a lot is your conditioner. I suggest Nexxus Humectress. It's like $13 for a big bottle, but it is REALLY good. You can use it as a leave in conditioner and your hair will look awesome.

I would advise using demi-permanant colors. They just deposit color onto the surface & don't penetrate the hair shaft. They should also give your hair some shine. They do fade out after 6 -8 shampoos (typically) Use a good deep conditioner afterwards. TIGI's S-Factor Serious Conditioner is the best!

rccola1979 is right. But lets take it one step further. If you go to a licensed hairdresser, and you should, you need to ask about a deep treatment. Redken makes Cat Protein and PPT. These are two of the best products on the market. Also, Sebastion has one called Potion 7, and Super Strenghthener by Paul Mitchell. Any one of these would be a great help. And when you find the right stylist, stay with her/him. Give them time to learn you hair and about you. The difference is worth it.

Some really affordable shampoo's are Treseme', Paul Mitchell, or Redkin. Never ever buy Herbal Essence because it doesnt clean your hair very good.

Suave Salon Selectives. Good, cheap products designed to work like more expensive salon products. Humectant is designed to work like NEXUSS product, same ingrediants, same results. This would be ideal for highlighted hair. Sold in all WALMART stores. Use the shampoo and conditioner!
Oh GOD, I feel like i'm cheating on the professional products!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not everyone can afford them, I GET that, but they really do work!
You didn't hear it from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
