If you've got some whiskey, rub it on the gum. It will temporarily numb the area, and might help long enough for a handful of Advil to kick in. Holding a warm compress against the mouth is also good. If you've got a toothache, though, it probably means that you have a cavity that has progressed to the point where your nerve is exposed. So you should go to the dentist as soon as you can!

depends on the reason for the toothache. if it is due to a cavity or an abscess nothing much will help. in both cases you need a dentist....for an abscess you'll need antibiotics too. if it's due to wisdom teeth coming in...aspirin actually helps. i have taken up to 3 aspirin with good pain relief results, however, it doesn't last even 4 hours...only about 2 1/2.

there is this stuff at wal-mart and cvs called GlyOxide. It will help some with the pain and if there is any kind of topical infection or sore, it will clear that up real fast! the stuff rules.

clove of garlic oils or if you don't have that, soak some cotton wool in vodka and place it on the sore bit - it'll numb the pain 'til you get to the dentist
