Is there a formula or easy method to use to find out?
It's Creative THX 5.1 surround speakers putting out like 500 watts. It consist of 5 main speakers
and one subwoofer!!!

dB stands for decibels. Decibels are the log of a ratio. As a unit by themselves, they are meaningless....they must be compared to something. For example, 500 Watts compared to 1 Watt would give 10 LOG (500W/1W) = 27 dBW. With respect to 1 milliWatt: 10 LOG (500,000mW/1mW) = 57 dBm.

However, you are probably looking for dB(SPL) which is the sound pressure level relative to 20 microPascals of pressure. This may be listed on your speakers. It typically is measured with a noise source being played at an electrical output level of 1 Watt on your speakers at a distance of 1 meter away from the speakers. As such, it will be difficult to determine it exactly from just knowing your speakers are capable of consuming 500 Watts, because we do not know how efficiently they produce sound with those 500 Watts.

See the links below, especially the second one which describes measurement of sound pressure level. The previous posters are correct though...easiest to just buy a dB meter as shown from Radio Shack link below. Hope this helps!!
