Yes, you need to get a green card (permament resident status)that says you can live and work in the US... as a matter of fact, you can´t become a US citizen until you have been a permanent resident for 5 years and you have to pass tests, etc... til then you retain your citizenship and can do so forever, actually, if you prefer.

Absolutely, but you need to apply for "green card" that gives you a status of a permanent resident alien. the process might take a while, depending on the state where you are applying. however, if all your paperwork is right, in about 3 months after you file for "green card" , you should be invited for fingerprinting and in a matter of several weeks you should receive your authorization for work, which is valid until you receive your "green card". Once you become a resident, you don't need work authorization anymore, you can work and travel freely, and stay a citizen of your home country for as long as you like. for more detailed info just go to this website: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/residency/family.htm

You can remain a Canadian citizen all your life, whether or not you ever also become a US citizen. Both Canada and the US allow dual citizenship.

In order to live and work in the US, you will need an immigrant visa, unless you fall into a special NAFTA category:

Yes you don't have to change citizenship if you don't want to, just get what you need to live and work there.

My husband's American and I'm British and want to stay that way. It's only more red tape, alot of hassle and even more money to the US government, I had enough just trying to get my original green card. I wouldn't mind, but we're both in the UK now and I've no need for my green card!

why should you be allowed to work in the USA if you are not willing to live here and become a citizen yourself? and don't tell us that the marrage makes you a citizen when you would prefer to live in another country.

I believe you can work there because you're married to an American so you have a family connection and thus are able to live there without having to get citizenship.
