I don't mean to cause bad feelings, but I was wondering -- since the prevalent idea here seems to be that christians love jews, and "we're all responsible for killing jesus" etc... -- what do christians think of the fact that at least 99% of christianity over the last 1800 years or so despised jews and judaism?
(e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism#Anti-Semitism_and_the_Christian_world )(And just so no group thinks they're being singled out, that wiki articles points out faults from both the catholics and the protestants.)
Thank you for your honest replies and please try to keep answers SHORT (40 lines).

Perhaps my question wasn't clear because most of the posts have not addressed my question which is, namely, how do christians who believe that jews should 'not be hated' account for the gratuitous antisemitism of the last 1800+ years? Did none of those christians understand what christianity is about? If so, then when did christians "realize" what "true christianity" is about?

I understand your question. The history of Christian violence against Jews is shocking. The only way I understand it is that rulers like Constantine were not truly followers of Christ--in that there was no personal relationship. Constantine is the one who institute Sunday sabbath, Christmas, Easter...stuff like that. Prior to his rule, Christianity followed along with much of Judaism.
Anyway, to cut this short, I believe the church today is pretty unaware of the history of Christian violence against the Jews, and of the pervasive anti-semitic ideaologies in some theology. (Case in point--the church has taken the place of the Jews) Yet, there is a wave of people cropping up with increased understanding of Israel and the Jews place in God's end-time plan, and that God has not forsaken nor forgotten His people. He is zealous for them to come to Christ. Therefore, let us love the Jews and let the branch (gentiles) not boast against the root (Jews).

The truth of Christianity has not always been so widely available as it is today. Since the scriptures were written in languages that most people could not read, many people had to rely on others to give them the meaning. After the bible was translated into Latin the Catholic Church did a lot to discourage people from translating it into other languages. The Church of England did this as well. Anyway the result was that many people had only a little information. As the saying goes "a little information is a dangerous thing". Over the last few centuries Christianity has become more "available" to the laity. Here in America anyone can read and study the bible to their hearts content. Most people have several translations and access to even more. As the truth gets out we hopefully will get closer to God's will. Of course there are plenty of people still spreading lies. So it is good for Christians to be there own voice instead of just having other talk about us.

There are still people who call themselves Christians and who have negative feelings toward the Jewish people. I think the main
reasons for this are; bad teaching from the priests and ministers,
Christians not reading the Bible, and the fact that many people
don't think clearly.
The Bible is clear that before God created the world He knew that Adam and Eve would sin. He knew from the beginning that
mankind would sin and that we would need a savior, Jesus.
Jesus being crucified had nothing to do with the Jews.
I hate the fact that so many ministers and priests do not teach the truth of that.

I remember staring at information of the 6 day warfare on television while i became right into a sprint boy and telling my mom that i needed the Egyptians to win via fact Egypt became into in Africa (and we are black). My mom instructed me that the Israelis have been God's chosen human beings and we could continuously be praying for them. So it became into a minimum of in the previous the 60s. possibly the Georgians you're rreferring to have been erroneous Christians, however the klan are no longer something yet a pseudo-christian cult. Our love for Jews isn't because it is portrayed, some choose for armeggedon to take place or via fact we choose the Jews to alter into Christians (nonetheless we do choose Jews and all people else to alter into Christians), it is especially pushed via an understand-how that God will bless people who bless the Jews, and that God nevertheless has plans for them/the rustic of Israel.

It makes me sad to know that people kill, hate and whaterver else to each other just becuase they chose to worship God in a diffearnt way.
My Mother always taught me that if you take away the Dogma from religon and just stick to the actual religon you will find that almost all religons are the same.

We believe the Bible and take very seriously the command of praying for Jerusalem and God's chosen people. We wouldn't have the Bible if it wasn't for them, nor a Savior, Jesus, who was a Jew, and ALL the apostles who wrote the new testament were Jews. We by faith we are seed of Abraham too, so I guess all us Christians are Jews by adoption! And heirs of the blessing (of Abraham: I will bless all who bless you and curse all who curse you, and in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed".) Actually there's a new organization called "Christians United for Israel" one of their goals is to go to Washington and speak in favor of Israel.
And regarding who killed Jesus, nobody did, Jesus said:
John 10:17The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 NO ONE TAKES IT FROM ME, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to GIVE his life a ransom for many.
Matthew 20:27-29
John 5:21
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.
My brother has a bumper sticker on his car that says:
"My boss is a Jewish carpenter"

Christians are supposed to "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and strenght, and Love you neighbor as thyself". I'd say that 99% of the time we fall short! Sad to say, but true.

I don't think the prevalent idea is that we love jews so much as we don't hate them. I don't go around loving just anyone. I respect them as people.
