First of all, there is no sense in them paying back owed taxes because their employers have made loads of money off these folks for having such cheap labor. Plus immigrants work hard so the production/sales/revenue reflect this. If anything, illegal immigrants have paid their dues more than twice over and, when legalized, shouldn't have to pay back anything. Also, It would be difficult to determine what they are owed back in terms of back pay, since it'll probably seem like more of a he said/she said type of a situation to the courts. I doubt that back pay would matter to these folks as they will be willing to work as hard as needed to establish something in the United States especially after they are legalized.

I think what worries those anti-illegals is that once these folks start voting, that they will have real power in the country because of their numbers. But if you are an intelligent Republican (still looking for one), you can see that most illegals that are Hispanic are Catholic. And Catholics are strict on values and religious political questions. Once these folks become legal, and once they get into a middle class to an upper middle class tax bracket, a significant portion of them will probably vote along the Republican platform. One because the Republicans like to talk about their party as the religious party and two because these folks will most likely not want to be over taxed and will want the tax incentives that the corporate America/wealthier Americans enjoy.

Basically, I don't feel like back pay will even be an issue.

Since they weren't legally entitled to work, how were they entitled to minimum wage? Also employers would certainly kill the amnesty concept if that were a part of it.

Most illegals here are only bilingual because we paid for them to be tought English when our schools as a result don't have enough money to teach our own children a second language in elementary school. It is not a point that helps your cause.

In fact, they should get back minimum wage, but should pay $18,000 per year in school here per child educated, should pay back all health care given on a subsidized or free basis, etc.

You do not come out ahead.

Hell, no. For one, they shouldn't have been here in the first place. Two, I think that the employer should have to pay, but not the illegals. I think that the employer should pay FINES for BREAKING THE FREAKIN' LAW IN THE FIRST PLACE.

If they BECOME legal to be here, then they can get paid minimum wage, but before they were legal doesn't count, and SHOULDN'T count.

actually if they work for a company for less than min wage, they can sue and win thier back pay. Just being hired illegally would not stop the obligation of the company to pay legal wages.

No, they came here illegally. Why do we owe them? Of course, I would rather pay them the back wages (because they actually worked) than pay the blacks for being related to a slave (did nothing but go to court to get free money).

No. They should get in the back of the line. Legal immigrants should be getting free amnesty and because they followed the laws of immigration and America, any illegal that was given amnesty should pay the legal immigrants for the rest of their lives.

Wow maybe I should. Oh wait that will never happen what was I thinking. I am an American. That will never happen.

Do you think that maybe I don't have to pay taxes because I am helping 7 million illegals.

No, they were here illegally. but they did come here to work for a better life for their families. Risking all they had and also leaving their family. We you realize they do some of the worst jobs. Some jobs we wouldn't do. Like cleaning house and toilets for other and mowing lawns in the hot sun.
