Wow. I am amazed at the ignorance of some the answers here, so I had to respond to this one. First of all, there is presently NO CURE for Herpes, however, the good news is that if you take precautions you will be much more likely to be protected. If your partner takes Valtrex to suppress outbreaks, this will help, but will not completely protect you. The best thing she can do is to simply live as healthy a lifestyle as she possibly can - no excessive drinking, NO SMOKING, no late nights with lots of LACK of sleep - this, I've heard, can be a big trigger for an outbreak (i.e., STRESS). Glyconutrients, whatever they are (the term actually covers a lot of territory) will probably not do anything to relieve the symptoms of an outbreak. Your girlfriend will probably develop her own body's sensitivity to when she is sick, so she should pay attention to when she isn't feeling as well as she thinks she should. You should also follow the good advice presented here to always try to practice safe sex, especially if there is any doubt whatsoever about whether or not she may be having an outbreak. I recommend that you contact the American Social Health Association - they have great information on this. There is a vaccine under trials for herpes, but it only seems to work on women (the first gender-specific vaccine), and only if the woman has never been exposed to herpes before. It is currently estimated that by the time most Americans will reach middle age about 50% may have genital herpes, so this is a very prevalent problem. Herpes is also extremely common in adults, orally. If you use common sense and follow good health guidelines I don't see why you two shouldn't have a great life together. Learn as much as you can about it so you can protect each other. And whatever you do, don't listen to the people that think they know and don't... find out for yourself - the Internet is great for that, but be sure to look for websites that have the "HON" code - it is short for "Health On the 'Net" and is the health profession's web "honor code".

Any one who says that Herpes is incurable is ignorant of all the medical techniques.
Homeopathy has been curing Genital herpes for about 2 centuries.
But Allopathy --Orthodox Medicine -- has NO answer.
I had herpes for years until I took up homeopathy , when you are well it retreats to the base of the spine and only emerges when you are below par.
One dose each of Natrum Mur on three successive days will do the trick
Day 1 Nat Mur 10M
Day 2 Nat Mur CM
Day 3 Nat Mur 10CM
Takes about three weeks to take effect and do not use any Menthol, Eucalyptus ,Peppermint,Camphor ,Steroids or antibiotics during that time. Also reduce coffee intake to a minimum.

Be careful- make sure you use a physical barrier such as a condom. Do not have sex if there are open sores. Also keep in mind that even though there may not be open lesions, it is still possible to pass the virus. Unfortunately, herpes is a viral illness vs. a bacterial. Viruses are only treatable, not curable.

Herpes can be cured with some antibiotics. The most important thing is keep yourself not having sex with her during the herpes infection or you will get infected too. Get her to a doctor to cure her first.

My suggestion is to bite the bullet and find someone to
love that does not have herpes or any other serious disease.
IF you stay with her long, you will most likely get herpes..
Of course, it won't kill you but finding someone else to love
won't kill you either and "that" doesn't give you herpes..

herpes is very contagious, but safe sex works always use condoms, have sex only when she doesnt have open lesions, dont have oral sex unless youuse a dental dam, the antiviral drugs work to make an outbreak less painful but does NOTHING to prevent spread if shes good enuf for you to love then she will understand and even suggest and actively participate in protection for you

Take your chances, and make sure she's taking Valtrex or one of its dopplegangers. This won't prevent her from passing it to you, but it will reduce the chances. Oh, and use protection. Aside from that, there isn't much you can do prophylactically that will keep you safe.
