I have a summer school packet due NEXT WEEK. and one of the questions is the date of and location of origin of polytheism. i want to say that Egypt is the place of origin..but i'm not sure. PLEASE HELP. all of my friends are having problems with this.

Probably India, since Hinduism goes back millenia(although Hinduism is considered Pantheistic, rather than Polytheistic).

To be honest with you, I don't really think that there is a place of origin for polytheism, because all cultures in the entire world have some kind of religious belief, even if they had been cut off from the rest of civilization for thousands & thousands of years, & most(if not all) primitive religions are polytheistic.

It is a loaded question. You could say that it is as old as history itself, that is an answer that may be verifiable. Yet there are cave paintings that suggest active structured religion as long ago as 7 to 9 thousand years ago. The oldest know form of religion animism is the worships of spirits and the word spirits here fits into our definition and use of the word God. Around the same time as the cave paintings. Mesopatamians actually had a polytheistic form of religion before the Egyptians did. Good luck with your assignment :)
