I just had ACL surjery on my right knee 6 days ago. Today, I ran out of percocets, and I am about to start Tylenol 3s. Are they about the same? Should I take the same dosages? Thank you so much for you answers.

Tylenol 3 is Codeine with Acetaminophen and Percocet is Oxycodone with Acetaminophen. Both are narcotic analgesics (pain relievers) but have a different active ingredient.

Tylenol 3 contains real codeine (codeine phosphate) and is lower in strength than Percocet.

Percocet contains a syntheic narcotic of the codine and methadone family.

Percocet also contains more Acetaminophone (25 mgs more than Tylenol).

Tylenol 4 is closer to Percocet.

Watch for any algeric side effects to the codedine. Some people have a bad reaction to it. Very few people, but some.

Vicoden is also similar to Tylenol 4 and Percocet, except it uses hydrocodone bitarate, which is also a synthetic from the opiate family.

Dosage is the same for all three 1 every 6 hours.

All three are addictive and the pain releiveing powers reduce with continue use.

Hey Tory, I just got my wisdom teeth out thursday and have been taking Tylenol 3. These things are pretty weak, I take 2 and dont feel a difference at all. I have small pills though 300mg APAP 30mg Codeine. Percocets are definately stronger but you dont want to up the dose of Tylenol 3 too much because Acetaminophen can cause heart failure and breathing problems when too much is taken. See if you can get a refill by calling your surgeon and requesting.

Percocet is a combination of oxycodone and tylenol. It comes in varying strengths, all of which are considered class 2 narcotics (highly restricted) Tylenol 3 is a combination of codeine and tylenol. T-3's are also narcotic (also restricted, but not as tightly as percocet) but not as potent as percocet. Both are control substances, i.e. have abuse potential, so the less you can get by on, the better. Good Luck

Percocet is stronger, are you on 5/325 mg? Thats the most common strength,it's 5 mg of oxycodone and 325 mg of acetamenophin (tylenol). Tylenol 3 is just codeine and acetamenophin...having a brain fart I can't remember the strengths of either of them right now.You should only take whats prescribed to you, follow the directions and the directions on you're bottle only, do not take any extra tylenol with either of them as you can over dose on acetamenophin very easily and totally fry you're liver because that's where acetamenophen metabolises. You're T 3's may not do much for you but you can safely take a couple Ibuprofen with them,or motrin, advil, even aleve...aleve (naproxen) is in the same drug class as ibuprofen and does the same thing...but only take 1 instead of 2 like ibuprofen. You can call youre doctor or pharmacy to make sure but I wouldn't give you advice that would be dangerous to you're health, anti-inflammitories like IBU,advil, motrin, aleve are in a different drug class then tylenol (acetamenophen) and will work together to help ease you're pain.Take them only on an as needed basis, you can easily become addicted/dependant on them.

Honestly i hate when people try to answet these questions when they really have no idea what they are talking about!!!! The differnce between is Percocet belongs in the Oxycodone family and Vicodin is Hydrocodone. Dosing is usually the same, i.e. 5/325, 5/500, 7.5/500 ect. Itching is a normal side effect of an opiad analgesic, however if it turns severe or you start having trouble breathing, you should get to an ER quickly!! Both of these drugs can cause severe respiratory problems.

I have fibromyalgia, and am on both of these medications for pain. Percocet is oxycodone, and Vicodin is hydrocodone. Both are strong opiates, but Percocet is far stronger. And don't worry about the itching...it's a perfectly normal side effect from the Vicodin. I get itchy on my nose, ears, and face. The Percocet doesn't do that to me. Now, when I've actually taken the name-brand Vicodin, I haven't itched at all, but I itch with the generic something fierce. I have no explanation for that.
