I live in a very nice well kept mobile home park. For years the community well water was terrible, undrinkable with a strange smell. Recently the park built a filter station and sent everyone bills, the cost is the same as city water, which is not available in my erea. I think it is the parks obligation to provide clean safe drinking water to there residents. How can this be legal? and what can I do about it if anything.

I pay to maintain this park with my lot rent. They use that money to maintain the property not to repair my home. Lets say the water pipe breaks in my home there not going to repair it thats my problem, but if a pipe breaks under the ground thats there problem because I rent the land not the home. Also dont you think $40 per month times 4,500 residents is way more than the cost to maintain a filter station?

i believe it is legal after all they paid for the filtration system, there must be upkeep and if the well dries, they have to dig, as well as testing to make sure the water is potable.

Why would it be illegal? It's no more the park's obligation to provide clean, safe drinking water for free than it is the city's, and you better believe the city charges for every drop. It sounds like the well is owned by the park, the filter station is owned by the park, and they are incurring all the costs of its operation. Why shouldn't they pass those costs on to the people who use it? Unless they signed something saying they're obligated to give you water for free, what they're doing is perfectly legal.

If it is there water system yes. Because they have to re coop the cost of maintenance as well as up keep of the system. So either move , or if you own the land get your own well . then you will discover just how much it cost to turn on the tap . figure the cost of a new house well is $15.00 per foot in this area , plus pump and pipe , it gets up there really fast.........

you can send a sample to the state you live in to see if it is safe to drink and if it isn't they will have to get you water some way. But they can charge you for the water if it is there well or their piping coming in, but check with your county court house on both the charge and the smell they could help you more.

I believe it is legal to charge the mobile community for the expense they have in-cured to have built the filtration station. (a new maintenance expense) They are not charging for the water, but for the new system to make the water cleaner & healthier.

They have to be a public ultities to do that.they cam however charge you for the electric to run the well but,it must be divided evenly between the tenants.I don't know who you'd talk to about it but,you might try a lawyer.
