Teofilo Stevenson Holds the record for most Heavyweight Gold Medals in the Olympics & probably most olympic boxing medals period. He fought in atleast four Olympics (known as the Cuban Ali) during a period when Americans Dominated Olympic Boxing he sent them home with the silver (John Tate & probably Leon Spinks) I'm not sure who else he beat for gold. It was a long time ago and my memory is not that good, but he was fun to watch

Stevenson was the Cuban heavyweight who won the Olympic Gold Medal in 1972, 1976 and 1980. In 1984, Cuba boycotted the Olympics. He may have been the best amatuer heavyweight ever and many boxing fans were hoping he would be allowed to fight professionally nad take on Muhammad Ali.

A great Cuban Olympian. The Heavyweight gold medalist. Not once. Not twice. Thrice! Three times. His father had an English name because he was an ethnic Jamaican from St. Vincent. He never turned pro, though there was always talk of his fighting Larry Holmes. Cuba, of course, is communist and doesn't have pro boxing. He'd of had to emigrate, or jump ship somewhere. Stevenson was pro Castro. Whether he'd have beaten Holmes remains a moot question. ( I think Holmes would have cleaned his clock.) A later Cuban heavyweight did turn pro, Jose Luis Gonzalez, and, after beating Lewis and Bowe as an amateur, proved he was nothing special as a pro. He took got beaten bad in his only title appearance, and was stopped early. He wisely retired.
and proved himself to be no more than a contender.
