Is it a poosible scenario that US got nuked so severely that it's economy
collapsed completely, all infrastrutures and communication completely destroyed in such a way that although having the largest stockpile of nukes it will lose the power to operate them and retaliate?

I don't want to do that. Just curious about what people are thinking.

The US has a lot of Nukes in submarines. Even if North America is flattened, they could retalliate.

I suspect that most of the Nukes in silos have their own power supplies, so would be unaffected by a destruction of the infrastructure.

Uh if we were attacked by a nuclear missle, the economy would be the last thing we'd be worried about.

Secondly, no country would be foolish enough to do that, they would be risking the retaliation of the U.S, which still has a large stockpile of over 1,000 nuclear weapons and I'm pretty sure nuclear weapons don't run on a standard civilian power plant, they must have some sort of power generator within the launch area. We also have a defence system set up on the west coast. The bottom line is, unless they have a death wish, no, it is not a possible scenario.

It's not real likely that another country will use its first strike capabilities, as our allies would then be required to launch against that country, which would have others launching in panic, which would surely destroy the environment of the world, and result in nuclear winter, and the poisoning of the atmosphere, killing almost all life on the planet. The U.S. government calls this scenario "M.A.D." , mutually assured destruction. So, everyone stands poised with their fingers on the button, and are terrified that they might have to push it. The world almost wound up in a nuclear war once when a tree on the border between two opposing countries was cut down, for a better view of the border, which the other country thought was the beginning of an invasion, and had both sides ready to launch their arsenals against each other, which would cause others to launch in a blind panic. Isnt life great? By the way, ever seen those planes real real high up, leaving trails in the sky? Those are b52 bombers, loaded with nukes. They have them in the air 24/7, 365. What happens when one of them come down? It's not a matter of if, but when. Plus, the "Space Station" the U.S. is building isnt a space station, but a nuclear weapons platform, designed and built by Lockheed Martin, under the directorship of one Norman Augistine, the C.E.O. of Lockheed Martin, and the biggist weapons manufacturer in the world. Sleep soundly, safe in the knowledge that lunatics are in charge of all of this :)

It might be possible.. if every other country in the world nuked the USA... of course... that would destroy every living thing on the planet... not just the USA.... nuclear radiation would cover the earth...

I'm not sure about cockroaches.. some people say they will live.. but... if all enzymes and bacteria were also destroyed.. could they survive?... how do they digest stuff?

Even if conventional weapons were used and totally destroyed the USA... the World economy would collapse... many people think they are immune to the effects.. but they would be surprised... desease spreads rapidly from massive starvation.

Yes. It is possible. There are lots of structural weaknesses as demonstrated by the complete collapse of support and supply chain systems as demonstrated by the Hurrican Katrina event.

All nuclear weapons use older technologies that need replacement parts that are not readily available today, and have not been tested for many years. No one is really certain if the weapons would work effectively at all. Many previous test firings of cruise and other missiles have failed. This deterent is not without many many shortcomings.

I think it is not difficult to look at how to cripple the US infrastructure. This can be trial tested by Isreal with Lebanon and Syria. Bombing all vital human support systems and other infrastructure in these two countries will be a test of how prepared US needs to be if a similar event occurs right on USA soil.

Terrorists have repeatedly looked at these possibilities - and recent bombings in India targeting the transit systems - is a typical soft target.

We need everyone to be extra vigilant in observing and reporting terrorist planning and suspicious activities and possible characters. If we live our lives under a state of seige, the terrorists have won.

The odds are against it (at least from the viewpoint of a nuke delivered by missile)...

Any such missile would be detected and shot out of the sky.

Suitcase nukes by Islamic Terrorists are however a real threat that need to be addressed...

Only Russia could come close to doing that. There is no super duper bomb that blows up an area the size of the USA.We would have time to counterstrike before they hit.The anti-ballistic missiles would probably get some (ABM,"star wars system").
Maybe they might all get destroyed(in your scenario). The world will be distroyed at the coming of Jesus.

who needs to be nuked? just "sanction" us. what would we do if our 60 inch plasma tv cost us $4,000 dollars instead of three thousand?

or the foreign car cost twice as much, if they would even sell it to us?

don't have to be nuked with a bomb, since the economic impact would be "worse" as there is not real recourse, except to be the one that starts the war.

If it got nuked badly, what difference would it make then?

There wouldn't be much left to worry about.

In order to do that, you would also cripple every other nation on the planet, as the radiation effects would spread.

Why would you want to do that?
